Two Ways: Pastel Pixel Pencil

May 29, 2012

Skirt: Catalina Printed Skirt (Reiss, $245)

From Left, Earrings: Sabine Turq Studs ($15) Bracelet: Track Link Bracelet ($78) Bag: Pippa Small Grab ($260) Shirt: Gelato Love Top ($63) Shoes: Perfect Embossed Leather Pumps ($178)

From Right, Earrings: Ralph Lauren Seychelles Drops ($32) Bracelet: Aspinal Empress Cuff ($119) Purse: Leather Clutch ($84) Top: Sequined Cotton Tank ($60) Shoes: Elizabeth and James E-Love Sandal ($144, Size 10 Only)

It’s a Pastel Pixel Pencil…try saying that five times fast.

For the Office.  I like chiffon blouses (tie-neck or otherwise) because they’re so easy.  Pair them with a pencil skirt, a trouser or a suit and they just work.  No thought, no effort required.

Here, I added a short sleeve blouse to a pixel skirt for a tonal look.  I think pairing similar shades together makes for a rich look that isn’t too matchy.  You could also add a belt if you need more structure at the waist.  I’d recommend a slightly darker shade of tan than what is in the skirt.

I love this bracelet.  It’s the perfect replacement for my freshly broken pyramid cuff.  I also like these simple stud earrings, which have now been on the blog three times, a sure sign that I should buy them.  And the bad is a small version of the Modalu Pippa Grab that we all know and love.  Plus, a simple heel to carry the day.

For the hair, I would wear it in a low ponytail teased at the crown to a light bouffant.  For the makeup, a gold wash on the lid with a hint of shadow in a color that will complement your eye color and dark liner.  For the lips, I would suggest a raspberry.

For a Dinner Date. I would have preferred a short sleeve sequin blouse for this outfit, but the tank conveys the concept.  I like an ivory sequin blouse because it’s sparkly without being too Jersey Shore.

These sandals are fantastic.  So fantastic that for the first and only time in the history of ever, I wished my size 9 feet were size 10s.  I think they add a bit of modernity to the outfit.

As much as I love tone-on-tone styling, sometimes you just need to accent with a different color.  I love this berry-colored cuff, and the way it sets off the aquas and blues.  Add a simple clutch that’s big enough for all your essentials and your set for a night on the town.

For the hair, I would wear it down and wavy.  For the makeup, I would suggest a slightly opaque berry lip and a slightly smoky eye palette of taupe and cream.  I would also paint my toenails a corresponding shade of berry.

I love these, but a fair word of warning – I bought, and returned that modcloth bow blouse. 'Tis sadly not pastel in real life.

I am absolutely in love with this dinner date outfit! So, so chic for summer. I've been searching for the perfect clutch by which to participate in the mint green trend, and this one is just gorgeous, especially paired with the purple cuff.

I saw you in there too! Congrats! And as a longtime reader, seeing your face and real name was exciting. How fun that you're no longer an anonymous author!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
