Colour Shift Dress (Topshop, $60)

Shift dresses like this one are perfect for summer.  They’re also perfect for traveling because you can dress them up or dress them down.  And, as an added bonus, if you put on a couple of pounds, the dresses are roomy enough to hide your secret addiction to cheesburgers and fries.

What? Don’t pretend it’s just me.

I've been loving this shift dress I have from Lands' End – a similar style to the one posted, but knit, so it's wonderful for traveling – no ironing necessary, ever! I've been wearing it once a week lately. On sale for $34.99 right now, too!

I'll be coming back to see your thoughts on how to wear this. My wife bought a shift dress that she loves but feels that she can't wear it anywhere because it rides up so far when she sits down.

  3. UB says:

How would you style that when you are hourglass with extra minutes? (my new favorite way to describe my body type) I am afraid it would instantly add more pounds than all the cheeseburgers I ever had.
Belts never seem to work because my midsection is so small that they just create all kinds of weird bulges and folds.
I have a similar (sheath) dress I had taken in around the waist but then it's not so roomy anymore.

Boy, it's a tough life, hahahaha.

  4. J says:

That dress is so pretty from the front but the giant black zipper on the back is horrible! Why did they have to ruin a perfectly good dress???

  5. Belle says:

UB: This is probably not your best shape. Hourglass figures look best with a defined waist.

Chris: If she's concerned about length, maybe she could add a strip of fabric around the bottom in a contrasting color? That way she'd get a colorblock look. I have a black shift with a white block around the bottom, and I get a lot of compliments on it.

J: I kind of like it, but I would like it better if it were navy instead of black. But it's not for everyone.

  6. Smeeshu says:

How does the sizing run with Topshop dresses? Love the green shift.

  7. Belle says:

Smeeshu: I've found with other dresses that it can run a little small, but I'm not sure since this is a more forgiving cut.

  8. Jill says:

I've been eyeing this dress. It looks like a great find! 🙂
