10th Commandment: May 21

May 21, 2012

Awhile back, Virginia suggested that I should do a post about casual professional fashion.  After all, the way some staffers dress during recess isn’t acceptable.  Some are too casual.  Others are just dressed inappropriately–wearing leggings as pants, blouses that show too much cleavage, etc.

This week, there will be an item under-$150 every morning.  And in the afternoon, a Two Ways set featuring that item in relaxed work look and an outfit for the weekend.  Because while we all need great work clothes, that doesn’t mean we can slouch on casual days.

Des Colores Tie Neck Top (Modcloth, $43)

Tie neck blouses are great for women who don’t always want or need to wear a jacket.  The sleeves keep them work appropriate, and the tie gives them a little something that a basic crewneck lacks.  This blouse also comes in red, yellow and lilac if kelly green isn’t your thing.  It also comes in a charming sheer, blossom print.

Check back at 1:00PM for Two Ways to wear this top.

Do you tuck this in or leave it untucked? I imagine I would tuck if wearing a pencil skirt–but not so sure with slacks….

  2. RMS says:

I have this blouse and I get compliments every time I wear it. Sam, I tuck it in with pencil skirts and pants, but leave it untucked with jeans.

I want to love this blouse so badly – sleeves, kelly green, drapey fabric – but it looks like an '80s maternity top to me. So sad!

  4. MJ says:

Hi Belle – I love this idea but can never seem to find appropriate blouses for a larger chest. I'm always covering up with cardigans or jackets – which is not possible in a DC summer. I usually stick to dresses for this reason but would love to wear a cute blouse and pencil skirt sometimes. V-necks seem to show too much and blouses with details like this adorable bow or any type of ruffle draw even more attention to a large chest. Any blouse ideas for ladies with a D or higher cup size?

  5. Genny says:

I own several of these blouses in the long-sleeve version and love them! Great blouse to feature!

  6. Terri says:

Love the blous selection. Very versatile.

I know you aren't thrilled with animal prints but please tell me irony of this is too much:

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
