For Casual Friday. White denim and a nice blouse is a great work look for Casual Friday.  However, if you think white denim is too casual or too revealing for even white trouser jeans (a better choice than skinnies for a more conservative space), then just sub in regular denim.

This look is summery cool with complementing shades of blush and white.  The necklace has blush crystals that coordinate with the blouse for a sophisticated dose of bling.  And the orange scarf gives a punch of color when worn either in the hair or tied around the handle of the bag.

I am permitted to wear sandals at work.  If you are not, a nice flat shoe or slingback would work well.

For the hair, if you opt out of the scarf in the hair, I would do straight with curled under ends or light waves.  For the makeup, a pop of color on the cheek and a light coat of pink gloss on the lips.

For Cocktails with the Girls. There has been a surprising and unfortunate lack of sequins on this blog as of late.  It’s time to remedy that.

Here, I paired the white denim with a chambray shirt.  This would be great on it’s own, but I took it up a notch with the sequin sweater over the top.  Great for cool evenings of al fresco drinking.

The druzy ring and clutch are casual but still cool.  And they don’t overwhelm the look, which is already teetering on gauche thanks to the sequins.  This is not the time for chandelier earrings or metallic purses.

For the hair, I would suggest a bun.  For the makeup, a lightly smoked eye with a berry wash on the lips and a hint of shimmer on the top of the cheeks.

Belle: Should I take this post as an indication that you are on Team “It's OK to Wear White Before Memorial Day”?

I always get confused, on the West Coast (And I think in the South) White starts after Easter…where does DC fall? And, in my opinion, a good winter white should never be off limits just because it's not May-September. Anywho, LOVE your cocktail look. Will be trying to find a sequin sweater tonight so I can top off the look

  3. VS says:

Ok. these might be my 2 favorite looks ever. And i might even need to scope out American Eagle! Who knew!
I agree with the white. DC is kinda in the middle… but I have been noticing a LOT of people in white jeans. Plus they make me a little less upset that it is 40 degress when i walk outside in the mornings.

  4. Lane says:

I'm originally from South Carolina and I grew up with the rule white from Easter to Labor Day. But a winter white is appropriate in the cooler months, I think a lot of it hinges on the material though (wool trousers – okay in January, linen – my mother might faint from the degradation of social order)

  5. Belle says:

H: I am def on team wear white whenever. Except white shoes. Those are still summer only.

  6. norwegianette says:

Does anyone know how AE sizes fit compared to say JCrew? I tried to google but all the results on sizing seem to be for AE jeans. The shirt is sold out in S but I really love it so I'm wondering if I can get away with an XS. I'm usually a 2 in JCrew/small 4 in DvF.

  7. Caroline says:

I don't understand why you think skinny denim (or any denim for that matter) would be appropriate in an office where sandals are not. I can wear sandals all week if I want to, but never denim! I think that's far more typical. And tight pants seem like they would be inappropriate in just about any workplace.

  8. Belle says:

First off, there's tight and then skinny. If your jeans are sized properly, they won't be that tight. No showier than a pencil skirt, that is.

Secondly, I've worked in places where I could wear denim but not sandals and sandals but not denim. Different people have different rules, if that's not the rule where you are, alter accordingly.
