BPGP: Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray

Feb 21, 2012

I have baby fine hair and a lot of it, so it falls flat in the D.C. humidity.  Over the years, I’ve learned to live with my flatter, sleeker hair, but that doesn’t mean that I like it.  I look at pictures of Adele’s perfectly full coif and feel a twinge of sorrow for the voluminous hair that I can only achieve out West.

Recently, a few of my readers suggested that I try Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray ($19.50 and $39).  And since I’m a sucker for any product that promises fuller locks, I dipped over to Birchbox and ordered a can.

This product is a bit of a mixed bag.  When I wear my hair down, I notice almost no difference.  I spray it on, give it a tease and within ten minute, my hair’s flat again.

However, when I pull my hair into a ponytail or updo, this product provides insane amounts of volume.  Buns, twists, messy updos, basic ponytails all become cooler and more beautiful thanks to the spray.  This weekend, I pulled my hair into a Bardot-esque updo that reached heights never before reached with my hair.

If your hair just needs a little boost, this product will be perfect for you.  If you have super fine hair, however, your mileage may vary.  And if your a woman who likes updos, spray on this product for the highest heights of your life.

For more information on this spray and an instructional video on how to use it, try Oribe’s YouTube channel.

Like you I have fine hair, and lots of it, which works in the West, but out here is a different story. While I like this product for a dry shampoo, it did nada for volume. Abbey at Parlor Salon(who is amazing) suggested Oribe Maximista Thickening Spray at my last cut and in my 8 years out East I have never seen such volume in my hair. In even looks great on day 2.

I have the exact opposite hair–extremely thick, wiry, and wavy which, without proper styling and products, becomes Hermione-like at the slightest hint of humidity. But, I've seen a few blog reviews of Aquage Lifting Foam, which is supposed to give fullness and texture to gals with fine, flat hair. It might be worth a try!

I use Bumble & Bumble hair powder in Blondish [https://www.bumbleandbumble.com/product/72/177/Products/Styling/Specialty/blondish-hair-powder/index.tmpl] and I find it provides really good structure and volume for day-old shampoos. I have naturally very very thick hair – horselike, really – and I find this works really well to separate bangs, add volume with ponytails, etc, but it does leave behind a darker residue at times. [They have a few hue options for different shades of color.] Does this Oribe spray have any sort of tint to it? I'd be interested in trying out something new. Thanks Belle!

Carolyn, fragrance it has, color it does not.

I also love this product for its dry shampoo effects. I have side swept bangs and (apparently) mess with/touch them a lot throughout the day. By early evening, they would always look a little oily, and I hated it. Not anymore, though–it's like it soaks up the extra oil and keeps them fresh throughout the day. Also, a positive side effect from that has been fewer breakouts on my forehead. After a month or so of using it on a regular basis I realized the pimples on my forehead had diminished–the lack of oil in my bangs caused a lack of oil on my forehead, leading to fewer breakouts.

This product has changed my hair and I love it! I also use the St. Tropez spray for curling as well as when my hair is wet on vacation. it dries with a nice texture.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
