2011 Gift Guide: Stocking Stuffers for Him

Dec 6, 2011

Tumi Monaco Clip Card Case ($78).  This holiday, give the man in your life the gift of comfort.  No longer will he sit on an ass tumor (giant wallet) filled with receipts from 1999.  Instead, he will use this sleek card holder and money clip to hold all of his essentials.  And, unlike metal money clips that scratch credit cards and wear out IDs, this leather clip is durable, flexible and won’t damage his valuables or his jeans.

Whiskey Rocks ($28).  If the guy on your list likes his cocktails on the rocks, these are the perfect gift.  Chill these whiskey rocks in the freezer and then use them to cool your cocktail without diluting the alcohol.

Marshall Minor Earphones ($60).  These earphones are designed to provide optimum sound while fitting securely and comfortably in the ear.  They also have tangle-resistant fabric cords, so no more train rides spent untangling your earphone cords.  They also have a remote and a microphone on the cord so that you can use them with your smartphone.

Fossil Lineage Shave Kit ($70) and Jack Black Traveler Set ($25).  These gifts are perfect the man who has a skincare regimen or the man that needs one.  Jack Black products are effective, natural and free of synthetic fragrances.  Real men moisturize, or else they age badly.  That mid-life crisis will go a lot smoother if you’re not as wrinkly as a raisin.

Tickets.  Men love tickets.  Tickets to sporting events.  Tickets to concerts.  Tickets to movies.  And all you need to know to pick the perfect tickets is his favorite team or his favorite band, perfect for the newish boyfriend.

I HIGHLY recommend whiskey rocks. I got them for my now husband a couple of Valentine's Days ago and he LOVES them. They're stored in the freezer year round and are available whenever he wants a chilled, but full flavored, whiskey. And they do great in the dishwasher, though they definitely don't need to be washed after every use. Just don't waste your money on the expensive ones imported from Scotland. (They're made of this fancy porous marble that absorbs the whiskey causing future drinks to taste like the last one you had. If you have a whiskey man like I do, he'll want to savor the different flavors of his whiskeys as he tries new ones.)

  2. Danii says:

thanks! the whiskey rocks are PERFECT!

I need a guide for the poor intern to get her (very) gainfully employed boyfriend who has just about everything….

he loves cooking, but since we live together, i feel like a kitchen gift would be a gift for both of us. his mother gets him clothes, socks, the aforementioned shave and travel kit, etc…

    any other ideas?

  3. BN says:

Danii – – if you get him the whiskey rocks, you could pair it with a set of really nice low-ball drinking glasses. Im sure there are deals online, but you could also try Ross, Marshall's, and Home Goods for higher quality but cheaper options. Good luck!

  4. Christina says:

Love the whiskey cubes! Stockings are the best part of Christmas! So many fun goodies to open. 🙂

    xo,
    Christina

Danii – what about some interesting ingredients for him to cook with? Flours from different grains if he likes baking, or a bunch of indian spices, or flavored waters (orange, rose), or something if he might like to try cooking different ethnic foods – check out that isle of the grocery store or an asian grocery for inspiration. You could pair with the appropriate cookbook too. I know people on etsy sell different spice sets, or you could search them out on your own. Or you could plant some fresh herbs in a nice container so he has fresh herbs to cook with. Not expensive, but requires a little thought.

  6. Rose says:

I got my guy an apartment-friendly starter home brewing kit. He loves cooking and he loves beer so I figure he'll get a kick out of brewing his own and we don't really have room for lots of big equipment – this one is just two gallons and wasn't very expensive.

  7. Lindsey says:

A few years back I gave my brother a ticketmaster certificate (available online and at many grocery stores in any denomination) and he has since asked for ticketmaster certificates for each gift giving occassion since. He's used them on sporting events and concerts. And it allows him to plan around his schedule instead of buying him tickets to a particular event.

  8. Maggie says:

I found some similar whiskey rocks this year for the BF's birthday and they were a huge hit, I paired them with a pair of monogrammed/etched old fashion glasses. But that was only a month ago, and now I'm out of Christmas ideas 🙁

Danii: last year I got some homemade spice rubs from a friend that were both good and sentimental (and I assume not pricey) — I bet you could goggle recipes for a few and do something like that for him, perhaps in pretty jars or something… Hope that helps

  9. LS says:

Maggie, where did you get the monogrammed/etched glasses? Sounds like the perfect gift!

  10. Maggie says:

LS – I got the three initial one from Williams-Sonoma, which is here:
    https://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/monogrammed-double-old-fashioned-glass/
I had also looked at doing just a single initial, which they have at both WS and Pottery Barn, but something about the three initial I liked better.

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
