10th Commandment: October 4

Oct 4, 2011

This blouse is perfect for layering.  Wear it under crewnecks (short and long sleeved), funnel necks and blazers.  Perfect for the office and well-suited for casual attire, this blouse would be a welcome addition to any wardrobe.

Belle, I have an off-topic question for you or your readers. I don't work on the Hill, but I have started going to lectures there for my think tank job. The dress code for these types of events is a mystery to me. Is a suit necessary, or would a blazer with a dress or skirt be ok? Does it depend on whether or not Congress is in session? So far I have been more dressed up than most staffers, but I don't want to make a faux pas by not wearing a suit one day. Thanks for your fashion guidance!

Being more dressed up than a staffer isn't saying much these days. I went into a meeting yesterday and the man was wearing flip flops with cargo shorts. Weirdos.

A dress with blazer should be fine for in session days. For out of session days, you can go a bit more casual. Most staffers will be in jeans.

I say be more dressed up and revel in it, if the staffers dress down, that doesn't mean you have to.

Thanks for your always well-informed advice!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
