Coral Tuck Shift Dress (TopShop, $95)

This is dress is perfectly punchy.  However, I would add a belt.  Oh, interns and those of you playing the home game, if you added a belted cardi, in say berry, you could wear this to work.  Those bandage dresses and mini-skirts that I see running around the Capitol, not so much.  Basically, if you can wear it to the club and look cool, you can’t toss on a sweater and wear it to work.  Period.

(I know, you’ve heard this rant before, but I’m going to keep saying it until I stop seeing pale cellulite-covered thighs walking around the Capitol.  I have cellulite too, but my skirt is long enough to cover it.  And in case you were confused, that’s how it should be.  Down with the skinterns.)

This dress is adorable! And thank you! I don't understand why people think miniskirts are appropriate for the office! At least the interns are new and don't know any better… I'm shocked by the amount of grown women I see on the train in the morning with skirts halfway up their thighs!

  2. downy says:

Miniskirts are not even appropriate around bars/restaurants on the Hill. One of my favorite parts about moving away from DC is finally getting to notch up the skirt length a little. I don't have cellulite and covered up to slightly above the knee for four years simply because it was appropriate and professional. Finally, my pins are liberated! Interns, use your eyes, everyone is making fun of you behind your back.

  3. e.duncan says:

I love this dress, but am so tired of the exposed zipper. So many classy dresses are ruined by that.

  4. Jessica says:

@ E. duncan – Agree! hate the exposed zipper! When will it end…

  5. SB says:

Keep preaching Belle! I want to start handing out pink slips through the halls of Congress to inappropriately-clan interns.

  6. Trang says:

I too work for a fed establishment…we have halter maxi dresses, and skin tight skinnies and shirts down to there here…ughhh.

  7. Liz says:

Target has a copy for $24.99–Mossimo Women's Pleated Zip Back Dress. It's more casual but great to throw on in the blazing summer sun.

  8. Michelle says:

Love this dress, but it's out of stock! Suggestions for similar dresses?

  9. H.A. says:

what the heck is a bandage dress??

  10. Katie says:

I may be the minority, but I really like the exposed zipper. Something about the mix of the feminine and hardware touch balances it out for me.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
