Three Ways: Seersucker Blazer

Jun 7, 2011

Polyvore Set Here.

It is my personal belief that seersucker is best worn in a casual setting, not a work setting.  But since many D.C. offices have casual Fridays and staffers need recess attire, bringing seersucker into the casual business wardrobe seems like a no-brainer.

Here, I’ve paired a classic white jean with a loose fitting navy blouse and a seersucker jacket.  Seersucker’s natural compliments are in the blue family, but you could also wear green, coral or lavender.  I added a pair of necklaces (the coral branch Miss M featured last week, and an opalescent teal drop pendant) and some simple studs that won’t compete with the striped print.  A simple bag and a huarache sandal finish off the look.  However, if you’re concerned about sandals for the office, a nude or gold flat would work as well.

If you want to wear seersucker to the office, keep the look simple. Here, we have a textured, white blouse and a navy pencil skirt.  Add some cool stud earrings and a grey suede pump to complete the look.  I also added an orange purse, just because I couldn’t resist and some aviators to maintain the cool, summery vibe.Polyvore Set Here.

For a more casual look, I paired the seersucker blazer with a scalloped aqua short and a simple tank.  The turquoise earrings continue the color palette and the cool, cross-body bag keeps it casual but chic.  I chose wedges, because flats with shorts looks good on virtually no one.

If you’re looking for other casual options, seersucker over a navy/floral printed dress could be lovely.  For work, you could also belt it over a white or navy sheath.  About the only thing I don’t recommend is that you wear it with a seersucker skirt or pants, unless you want to look like you fell out of the preppy, Southern tree and hit every branch on the way down.  There is such a thing as too many stripes.

I like the first two but the aqua shorts with the navy jacket isn't quite my cup of tea.

I totally agree that a little goes a long way and entire suits of seersucker are too much.
    We're not that Southern.

For the Office – That is my favorite Kate Spade bag and the outfit if fabulous.

  4. Meg says:

I despise seersucker, but Belle, these outfits are making me reconsider! Absolutely fabulous.

  5. Jessica says:

I love the shopping in georgetown option, but it's so freaking hot here during seersucker season that I can't even imagine wearing a blazer outside our frigid congressional office buildings.

  6. Allison says:

The casual Fridays option is gorgeous, so well put together! I love Navy, white and gold, so crisp. And I want that Kate Spade bag so badly!

Anyone have opinions on open toed shoes at the office? Does it just depend on the office?

I love this outfit, but I think that most women who wear white pants don't wear them appropriately… Belle, I feel like you could probably rant about this like critter prints and capris.

Love the blog. Glad it sounds like you are feeling better since you are posting.

You did a nice job with these looks! I'm a fan of #1…need to get some white jeans!

  8. Jeff says:

These looks are super cute! One complaint, did you realize that the blazer only appears to be available from H&M UK and that the UK site does not allow shipping other than in the UK? Sadly my fiancee and I are limited to online ordering as the nearest H&M is over 100 miles away.

  9. Belle says:

I saw the same or a very similar blazer at the DC H&M last week. So it may not be available online, but you can find it in some stores.

  10. Erica says:

I have eyed those Gorjana Chloe Stud Earrings the past few times you've featured them, Belle – and I finally broke down and bought them this afternoon! This blog is dangerous!

Love love the Nordstrom's seersucker jacket!!

  13. Truc says:

Ha, thanks for the further suggestions Belle! And kudos for picking outfits so cute that when I sent the link to my fiance he was so enthusiastic he's commenting on your site about them. lol.

  14. Jeff says:

Belle, thanks for the info. I'll phone a couple of stores to see if I can find it. Also, thanks for the links to alternatives.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
