Career Style: Blue Monday

May 2, 2011

Polyvore Set Found Here.

Instead of mixing several colors, this outfit blends shades of the same color.  The blouse is a lovely, light Columbia blue with a blouson sleeve and a breezy fit.  The skirt is a vibrant royal blue with a higher waist and a long pencil fit.  Lastly, I added a teal obi belt to pull it all together.

For the accessories, I chose grey because black would have been too harsh and nude would not have been sophisticated enough.  Here, we have a textured grey bag that is under $50 and a dark grey shoe to balance the look.

To continue this theme, I chose a silver drop earring with a hint of blue, green and purple in the stone.

I love this blouse.  It is so modern and chic.  The color is great for the warm weather months and for layering in the autumn.  It’s the kind of piece that when there is nothing else to wear, you reach for this blouse and know that it will carry you through.

If you don’t like blue, you can try this tonal mix with an eggplant skirt, a lavender blouse and a raspberry belt.  If green is your thing, reach for a forest green skirt, an emerald belt, and a jade blouse.  And if monochromatic is the way for you, try a beige skirt with a white blouse and an kidskin belt.

I notice you paired this with a suede shoe. What are your thoughts on continuing to wear suede pumps into the spring? I always thought suede shoes were best left to fall and winter wear.

  3. Dr. Jean Grey says:

I don't know how to wear suede shoes. They scare me. I don't see how I ever make them last more than a week or so. All the different sprays, etc? Very confusing for me. Those ones are gorge tho

We shouldn't be 'singing the blues' today as government employees and Americans. The blue should be for the NAVY SEALS! 🙂

    Katie-I wrote this Friday.

Stephanie-suede boots and booties for fall only, pumps are easier year round

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
