Three Ways: Silk Leopard Pencil Skirt

Apr 26, 2011

Polyvore Set Here.

When you have such a bold skirt, you need neutrals or solids to keep you from looking “busy.”  For this outfit, we have the perfect kitten-heeled slingback and my favorite Rebecca Minkoff Mini-MAB.  Add a simple black onyx stud and you have all the basics needed to wear with this multi-colored, leopard-printed pencil skirt.

Also, I don’t know why everyone in this town insists on wearing a cami under their cardigans.  If it fits properly, I see no reason why you can’t go without.  And if you need a little extra something to pull it together, grab a piece of black ribbon and make yourself a belt.

The white button-front shirt is a classic.  And it is the perfect match for this pencil skirt.  A tip for buying a button down?  Buy one size up and then have it tailored down to fit you perfectly.  This will give you the perfect, tailored look without gapes or puckers.

Sometimes, you just want to wear flats. Sadly, most flat shoes are truly boring.  But these open-toe, bow flats are just chic enough.  Pair them with a simple, skinny belt, a coordinating handbag and some silver pyramid studs for a well-balance accessory pool.

Meeting the parents (or any family member for that matter) is stressful.  The last thing you need to be worried about is what you’re wearing.  Here, the pencil skirt and funky heels provide personality while the cut-out silk tee says, “I’m understated but interesting.”  Add a fun dangle earring in a coordinating shade of purple to pull it all together and you’ll know that whatever else happens, at least you look good.

I wear a cami under pretty much everything, but especially knits. It cuts down on expensive dry cleaning.

    Agree to disagree I guess.

  2. Kaylee says:

I wear a cami or simple tee under my cardigans because (especially at this time of year), I know I may want to take the cardigan off while commuting. I'm sure it's the same for many others. And, having lived in several places around the country and in a few other countries, I haven't found that this is something particular to “this town.”

  3. cca. says:

I agree i wear a cami under everything. It add warmth in winter, protects cardigan if i am perspiring in the warm months. Also adds support/shape.

  4. Rachel says:

I've been wearing ribbons as belts for years! I have such a petite frame that a belt often looks too structured and the ribbon looks softer and more feminine. So happy to see you promote it!

  5. Jenny says:

I wear camis under cardigans because cardigans that fit my stomach and shoulders are always, ALWAYS too small across the boobs. I unbutton it to where it doesn't pull anymore or just button the one button right under the boobs. It's either this or buy a cardigan that's way too big in the stomach and shoulders but fits the boobs.

Belle, I usually like your polyvore sets but I am not too keen on these – the parents and the breakfast meeting are too similar and pretty much all the colors I see are black and white. Earring or shoes or belts in an interesting color could really liven up these ensembles. The polyvore sets you have are not bad – but they are what a predictable person like me would pull off; I expect more from a fashion blogger I look up to!

I love those earrings in the last set!!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
