BPGP: Borghese Active Mud

Apr 26, 2011

Last year, the Style Coalition paired up with Elle magazine.  Because I don’t live in NYC, I haven’t been able to enjoy the parties, insider access and other extras that this partnership provides.  (But I’m not bitter, not at all *wink*.)

Then, last week, a box arrived with a copy of Elle and a gift from the magazine’s beauty department: Borghese Active Mud for Face and Body ($35).

Now, I’ve tried a few purifying mud masks in my day.  But I’ve never found one that wasn’t either a) dried my skin out beyond all recognition, b) caused more problems than it solved or c) smelled like it was harvested from the bottom of a Chinatown sewer.  Until this one.

The mask is meant to be used once per week for just a few minutes.  Not for an hours-long marathon treatment session.  So that really cuts down on the drying.

The mask has no smell that I can pick up, and it’s texture is very smooth and rich.  Once you smear it on, it even gives you a slight cooling sensation.

After three uses, my skin had cleared up a bit. Which, for Ms. Cystic Acne over here, was a big deal.  And, more than anything, it seemed to even out my skin tone quite nicely.  (I have a heart-shaped blotch on one cheek.)

$35 may seem like a lot to spend on a beauty product, but Borghese really isn’t skimping on the amount.  So you get a good bang for your buck.  And since you can use it on your body as well, I think it’s a must for bikini season.

So if you’re looking for a detoxifying mask that hydrates without clogging pores, give this one a try.  It’s officially been added to my Sunday night routine.

I'll have to give this stuff a try. I, too, suffer from constant, non-stop acne. (Ugh!). I've been having great success with the Peter Thomas Roth sulfur mask. Yes, it does stink like eucalyptus (yay for me) and sulfur (ew, ew, ew) but it does work at killing my bumps. I use it as a mask and an overnight treatment.

  2. JP says:

Have you tried the Peter Thomas Roth max complexion correction pads? they tried selling me that at sephora but i like the sound of this mask…

  3. Dr. Jean Grey says:

I have! And, I did not have a good experience with them. They really broke me out. I liked the unwrinkle pads much better. Those haven't broke me out yet, although they do have a high concentration, so you might want to use like half a pad or so. A little goes a long way. FWIW, I'm currently in love with the DDF 10 percent glycolic toner. It's really helped clear my acne up and give me glowy skin.

  4. JP says:

I think I saw that there too! I'll check it out. I was on Retin-A + Panoxyl wash 10% which made my skin all perfect and pretty until a month or so ago and now its like I'm back where I started.

The Find: An Affordable Work Dress

This winter was particularly hard on my psyche, on my self-esteem, and on my waistline. As we move into spring, I need to make a plan for how I am going to dress this additional weight over the months of work that it will likely take to shed it. So I was so glad to […]
