Three Ways: Floral Tunic

Apr 12, 2011

Tunic tops are great for casual wear, but with a little effort you can wear them for work and play.  However, these flowing, blouson tops must be cinched in to a snug fitting bottom to keep the proportions right. Only if you’re wearing them with jeans or leggings an you let the hem hang loose.  This silhouette will flatter many figures from hourglass to pear.

If you like the look of a tunic but it isn’t the most flattering shape for you, a good tailor can trim it down a bit.  I own two blouses like this one, and I have both taken in at least one size.  They still have the oversized look but without looking like I a tent.

When wearing a bold, bright print, make sure to layer the colors into your accessories.  Here, bubble gum pink bracelets and a candy-colored ring pick up the colors from the blouse to smarten up the casual top.  Because the blouse is so vibrant, I decided to stick with a neutral shoe and basic belt.

This summer, resolve to dine on burgers and sip cervezas while wearing something fabulous.  Give up your capri pants and polos, and invest in a cute, airy tunic and sleek denim (white or blue).  Toss on a few wooden bangles and a basic, t-strap sandal and embrace the flower-child chic.

This outfit is perfect for sipping Sangria al fresco at Jaleo.  It pairs a brightly patterned blouse with a shockingly peach skirt and killer high heels.  Toss in a pair of sexy drop earrings and a coordinating clutch, and you’re all set for a night on the town.

Love these looks and I've been trying to figure out how to wear a blouse like this. For the first look, do you envision tucking in the top, and wearing the belt at the top of the skirt, or leaving the blouse out and belting somewhere closer to the bottom of the ribcage? I'm a total dunce on this, if that wasn't obvious.

    LT-

I'd recommend tucking it in. And I would advise a thicker belt, looking at it again, that one's not really thick enough. Probably double that thickness would be best.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
