BPGP: Aussie Volume Styling Mousse

Apr 7, 2011

I have rather fine hair, so I need mousse like I need air.  Unfortunately, finding a mousse that can lift these limp locks is a challenge.  Thus, I’m constantly on the search for the elusive Miracle Mousse.

I decided to try Aussie Volume Styling Mousse because I’ll try anything.  Unfortunately, while the product does provide volume as advertised, it dries out the hair.

Since I started using it two weeks ago, my hair is completely parched at the ends.  It’s like straw.  I’m going to have to deep condition for days to get it back into shape.

While the Aussie Three Minute Miracle is a good product, both the hairsprays and now the mousse has failed to live up to expectations.  If I wanted to dry out my tresses, I’d break out a straightening iron and do it up right.

This product is best avoided at all costs.

Have you tried the Phyto root lifter? I think it's pretty amazing. https://www.sephora.com/browse/product.jhtml?id=P2910&shouldPaginate=true&categoryId=5332 Pricey, but I think it's worth it. Granted, I do have really thick hair…maybe you can test it out at Sephora. The key is using it when your hair is a little damp though.

Belle – I also LOVE Bumble&Bumble Thickening conditioner and their thickening spray applied to roots before a blowdry. And I love volume…well, you know how much. I can't even quantify. One of my fave drugstore mousses is the Herbal Essences (stay with me Belle) Set Me Up Extra hold mousse. I use it when I need one step before a blowdry and curling iron. Used it on my wedding day.

  3. DB says:

Any tips for a good deep conditioner? I've been fighting straw-like ends for months, despite not using any products (other than a dry conditioner occasionally)….

I'll second the Phyto Root Lifter… A friend of mine has been using it for 7 years. She has fine hair and depends on this to get her “higher the hair closer to God” look.

  5. VA Gal says:

I also have rather fine, naturally wavy hair and used to use mousse. My stylist told me that with fine hair, foaming gel works better. She got me started on Graham Webb Vivid Color Foaming Gel. I don't color my hair, but this is still wonderful stuff! It gives me volume and really cuts down on the frizzies.

  6. Dakota says:

My favorite mousse is Tousle Me Softly from Herbal Essences. It has a light scent when it's first dispensed but the smell goes away and it is not sticky at all. It works well for a drugstore product and it lasts between shampoos without falling.

  7. Belle says:

Foaming gel, eh? That;s a new one by me.

  8. Jesskah says:

John Frieda!! The mousse is conditioning plus their aerosol hairspray holds perfectly without being sticky!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
