Three Ways: Watercolor Blouses

Mar 15, 2011

A few weeks ago, I featured a watercolor-printed blouse in a Career Style post.  As lovely as it was, it was simply out of the reach of most working at women at over $400.  Luckily, the good folks at Anthropologie have stepped up to provide us with a lovely watercolor blouse that won’t break the bank.

Polyvore for the Office

For the office look, I paired the blouse with a simple navy suit.  You could also incorporate a navy pencil skirt and green cardigan.  If you’re feeling bold, you could try an animal print cardigan like this green and navy leopard print

Polyvore for Cocktails at Six

If you’re looking for a burst of color for your cocktail hour ensemble, this highlighter yellow pencil skirt is sure to do the trick.  The bright color plays well with the muted citron and earth tones in the blouse.  Simply add a stacked enamel bangle and some simple navy accessories and you’re all set to stun the happy hour crowd at your favorite post-work watering hole.

Polyvore for Spring Picnics.

Lastly, this blouse is perfect for an upscale casual outfit.  Wear it for a spring picnic in the Sculpture Garden or a stroll through down the Mall.  The blouse is a great compliment to warmer weather, but with a cardigan it’s perfect for brisk March days.

If you’re a woman who doesn’t wear many prints, a softer, watercolor pattern is the perfect addition to your wardrobe.  It’s not as assertive as a geometric print, but it’s more interesting than a simple solid or a basic stripe.

    Really love the cocktail outfit!

I love all the combinaisons but I couldn't find the top on Anthropologie. You make me want to have a yellow pencil skirt!

That second outfit is absolutely beautiful! I'm now determined to track down a yellow pencil skirt, hopefully cheaper!

I love that top! I went straight to anthropologie only to feel frustrated with yet another blouse where it feels like they put all the effort into the front and the back was an afterthought. While this is fine under a suit, I would just not find it attractive to have that one-color back stitched to such a pretty front without a jacket or cardigan. I would have loved it if only they just continued the pattern to the back.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
