Jane Russell 1921-2011

When I was a little girl, I watched Gentlemen Prefer Blondes at least 100 times.  And while everyone seemed to be smitten with Marilyn, I adored Jane.  In fact, when I was still working in PR, I had one of Jane’s most memorable quotes taped to my computer monitor:

“Publicity can be terrible.  But only if you don’t have any.”

My friend Sarah, who as a residence advisor in the freshman dorm preferred this one:

“The chaperone’s job is to make sure no one else has any fun. But nobody chaperones the chaperone. That’s why I’m so right for this job.”

Rest in Peace, Jane.  And remember, gentlemen may prefer blondes, but they marry brunettes.

Sometimes your comments strike me as so childish– “gentlemen prefer blondes but they marry brunettes” and your comments about weight– I remember one in particular in which you were so proud of yourself for being 30 pounds lighter than the valentine's day crew at your high school. IMHO, your blog would be much improved without your obvious signs of insecurity manifesting in snotty comments about people who are different from you.

First off, it was joke. The movies were called Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, and Gentlemen Marry Brunettes.

And if you are so offended by these comments, feel free to read elsewhere or start your own blog.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
