Career Style: Pearls and Stripes

Feb 7, 2011

I don’t often wear my black pants suit, but when I do, I like to layer on a lot of pieces to give it extra punch.  Why?  Because pants suits are so painfully boring, that if I don’t do something to give it lift, I may fall asleep at my desk.

This is a great way to recycle that striped tee that we all have hanging in the closet.  To make it more professional, I wear a pointed collar shirt underneath.  To make it more interesting, I like to add a multi-strand necklace or layer on several necklaces.

Also, how great are these shoes from Simply Soles?  And at $148, affordable on a staffer’s salary.  They also come in blue and nude.  Though I do wish they made them in grey.

To see which other pieces I used for this set, check out my Polyvore page.

Are your jackets a little loose when worn over a light weight blouse or do you have some more and some less tailored?

I love your layering skills – it's not something I'm very good at myself, but I'll be playing around based on your tips 😀

If I layer under a blazer, it's always with the intention of wearing it unbuttoned. When just worn with one shirt, they're tailored.
