10th Commandment: January 25

Jan 25, 2011

I usually don’t indulge in Spring attire until the days get longer, but I spotted this dress, and even I forgot that it isn’t March, yet.

This dress might be the most perfect maxi dress ever.  It’s jersey, so it’s comfortable and casual.  But the cut is a bit more sophisticated than your average maxi dress.  This will be the perfect dress to wear on the airplane or to the office during recess.

I like that this is a maxi dress with sleeves. Spaghetti straps = ew.

  2. R says:

Oh gosh, I think this could age one drastically.

  3. Belle says:

    R-

Only if you wear it with closed toed pumps and a cardigan. Instead, try to liven it up with stacked bangles, a metallic sandal and wavy hair.

I saw this on anthro's site this week and fell in luuuuuuuuuuuuve. I would wear this from now until June…and probably beyond.

  5. Meg says:

Ok, this may seem like a ridiculous question, but can you get a maxi dressed hemmed, or does it look bad? I LOVE maxi dresses, but all of them seem to be insanely long and I'd love to be able to wear with flats!

  6. JL says:

Maxi dresses, and this one in particular, remind me of those Texas FLDS folks:

Is this a body type thing that maxi's look right on some people, but maybe not everyone?

  7. Rachel says:

    Belle,

I'm 5'3″. Is it even possible for me to wear a maxi dress without it overwhelming me? If so, I could use some tips.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
