Career Style: Modern Vintage

Jan 11, 2011

This outfit was inspired by some vintage photos that I found at a local estate sale.  Ever since I saw them, I’ve been completely obsessed with peplums and jeweled, cluster brooches.   This set (created on Polyvore) was my attempt to mix mid-century style with modern accessories.  The palette is warm and pretty, but still elegant and simple.

Flutter Of Wings Jacket, $80
J.Crew Wool crepe pencil skirt – dark plum, $150
Grey zip shoe boots, 45 GBP
Tinley Road Flower Stud Earring, $26
Grey Suede Frill Cummerbund Belt, $50

I love the way the pleated belt cinches in the waist while complimenting the shape of the peplum.  It’s a little more interesting than just breaking out a skinny belt.

If you wanted to, you could incorporate grey tights or more jewelry.  But sometimes, less is more.

I'm not sure where you got the gray boots from but Cole Haan makes a similar pair of boots.

  2. Love those colors together…especially that skirt!

    This is a fabulous grouping.

Oh, just had to drop a comment to say I love this! Long live peplums!

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]

The Find: My Best Workout Shorts

For eight years, I have worn the same workout shorts. Every year, an influencer tries to sell me new shorts. I order them. I try them on. They pale in comparison to the shorts I already own. I return them.
