State of the Blog: Fun with Search Terms

May 7, 2010

As a blogger, it’s always fun to hear how readers find their way to your site.  I’ve been very lucky to be embraced by Roll Call, National Journal and other Capitol Hill newspapers that have helped staffers and interns find their way to my little corner of the internet.  I’ve also been accepted by fashion bloggers from all over the country who were kind enough to link to my one horse blog.  But the most popular and interesting way that people find this site is via search engines.

Here are some of the search terms that will land you here at CHS and their Capitol Hill Style approved responses:

What is Creative Cocktail?

A dress code invented by a power hungry event planner desperate to make her event (I guarantee this was a woman) seem unique.  Also, a huge source of consternation for women everywhere.

What does tim gunn say [about] capri pants for a wedding?

Nothing, because he’s passed out on the floor.  Capris at a wedding?  (Insert big eye roll here.)  Hopefully, not for the wedding party.

Capitol Hill Intern Dress Code

Yes, we have one.  Internships require professional attire similar to what your bosses are wearing, and no ladies, you cannot just throw a cardigan on over your party dress and call it good.  More on this next week.

Is a cardigan appropriate for a job interview if you’re a man?

Also…

Do I need to wear a blazer to my job interview?

No.  Yes.  Why are men suddenly averse to wearing a jacket?  Your job interview is your one opportunity to make a good impression, don’t screw it up because you wandered in looking like you work in the mail room.

Madras clothing rules memorial day

Yes, the preppy plaid staple rules the three-day weekends with an iron fist.

Are Tammy Fender skincare products worth the cost?

For the most part, yes. But you can buy samples for a much cheaper price ($12 for four) and see for yourself.

I Hate Crocs

Down with dishwasher safe footwearWelcome to the revolution.

Capitol Hill Intern Dress Code…more on this next week? SO glad to hear it…I’m an intern in desperate need of wardrobe guidance! What should I wear on my first day of work in a Senator’s office, suit or pencil skirt and blouse? I want to find a job on the Hill and look professional but not embarrassingly overdressed!

This is a good blog post, I was wondering if I could use this posting on my website, I will link it back to your website though. If this is a problem please let me know and I will take it down right away.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
