My body feels awful these days. Perimenopause is making me extremely uncomfortable. Most days, I wake up furious that I might have to wear “real clothes.” Even working from home, I’m seen on Zoom and need to look presentable because those calls can happen with no notice, at any time. So what do I wear on the days when nothing feels good?

Meet my Nightgown Dress, the Frank & Eileen Emma Popover Henley Maxi Dress. The dress has a real collar, so on a Zoom, it looks professional. But the feel is pure nightgown, a heavy jersey, a comfortable fit, and a soft feel. And then, when you leave the house, you look put together.
It’s the best.
I didn’t have a great experience with the F&E tops (too short and boxy on my frame), but this dress works for me. F&E gifted me my first one in black. I pretty quickly bought a second one in navy. I hope they come out with more colors (maybe a grey or a dark green, just saying). The comfort is unmatched.
As to fit, I am wearing the M, which is my size guide size. It’s a little snug in the hips, which are the widest part of me, but fits everywhere else perfectly. So I think this is a PSA for buying the size that fits the widest/biggest part of you.

Speaking of comfortable cotton dresses – I believe it was on your recommendation that I bought the Who What Wear poplin dress at Target in 2023. I bought black (“anthracite”). Short sleeves, V-neck trimmed in eyelet, hits mid-calf, three tiers, two on-seam pockets. I can’t find a link to include here. I wear it constantly and wish I had bought multiples. Any suggestions for replacements?
40 almost 41 – perimenopause blows. I’ve started taking estrogen and progesterone and the night sweats, bloating, and brain fog are noticeably better. I also got really weird about my clothes and how they felt on my skin/on my body – felt like I became more sensitive to textures – appreciate this find.
