Sometime in my late-20s, I switched from lace boy shorts to seamless thong underwear and I never looked back. Until I started IVF. During my pregnancy and the fertility treatments that preceded it, I needed something absorbent, so I wore period underwear. As you might imagine, I got used to wearing full-seat underwear again.
When I started dressing for the office again, I couldn’t go back to thongs. Believe me, I tried. But every time I looked in my top drawer to find just thongs, I was dejected. VPL be damned.
Now, it’s been two years, and it’s time to ease back into thongs. Not every day, but some of my clothes just don’t look their best with full-seat underwear. So I bought several styles and brands to give them a try. These were the best.
For comfort, the Hanky Panky Eve Bare thong is the best choice. I had to size up post-pregnancy, but the style of these thongs with the dip-down front is the most forgiving. And the material is thin, smooth, and lays flat.
On the days when I need some tummy smoothing, I reach for these Spanx Undie-tectable thongs. The wider band gives you light compression. It’s just enough to smooth, not enough to squeeze. If you’re between sizes, size up or else they will roll, which ruins the whole effect.
Not going to wear a thong, ever? I get it. Luckily, Soma Intimates Vanishing Edge line helps hide boy shorts, cheekys, and briefs under anything you’re wearing. The edges have a bit of silicone, so they won’t roll or bunch. And with tons of styles and colors, you can find the ones that are right for you.

I recently tried the Hanky Panky thongs and found the back to be quite thick and uncomfortable. Maybe it’s my butt causing issues? I hate to say this about a thong since I’ve long outgrown my g string days but there was too much fabric back there. 😀 I’d be curious if anyone else has a similar opinion and a “thinner” thong option. I loved the fit and fabric of the front and waist.
tommy john makes the thong a little differently

What were your favorite full coverage options?! I’ve been striking out on my hunt.
All of my undergarments were period underwear, but I wore the Proof scalloped-edge briefs. https://shopstyle.it/l/bZtQG
I’ve been loving the Athleta Ritual underwear – supportive and still practically invisible under work pants and leggings
I find Uniqlo to be the best source for seamless, comfortable underwear.
I’ve really been liking the CUUP high-rises but want/need something with a bit of support. I also like the thicker and textured ones from Auden at Target, which have a good bit of support but too narrow a band for even smoothing. So, BLESS YOU for that Spanx link – will be checking them out ASAP!
