The Find: A Versatile Top for Fall

Aug 10, 2021

Writing the morning post has been difficult since the start of the pandemic.  Designer fashions aren’t trickling down to retailers for various reasons, not the least of which is that most mid-price retailers are still socking jersey joggers next to tiered nap dresses.  So The Range posts, which show similar items in different price points, are a struggle to put together right now.

Luckily there are some great one-off pieces emerging right now as we move into fall.  And this cross-front top from 1.State is definitely one of them.

In this photo, this wrap-front top from 1.State looks a bit casual and cozy.  But in another image, it’s worn tucked into trousers with a blazer over it, and the look just works.  For a similar plaid blazer, try this one in a black and blue combination.

The top comes in four colors — black, sand, camouflage, and jersey gray — the sand and black can easily be worn with work separates.  The jersey gray and camo are probably best left for athleisure.  Sizing runs XXS – XXL.  1.State defines those numbers as 00 – 18.

If you’re looking for a top to layer under cardigans and blazers that’s sleeveless, this Surplice Sleeveless top has a similar cross-front style.  The sleeveless will be a little better if you struggle with finding blazers that aren’t tight in the arms.

Bottom line, these cross-front tops are flattering and comfortable.  I’m waiting for my black one to arrive, and I plan to wear it with leggings, under a blazer for the pendency of my WFH time.  That way, I can just toss on trousers or a skirt if I need to run out to a client meeting.

I have picked up a few 1.State pieces over the past year and I *really* like them. They’re trendy enough, and well made. They do seem to run a hair large. Definitely check out their blazers as well – they have a lot of colorful ones that are great for Zoom meetings over a dark top.

Can you post a review of this top once yours arrives? Very tempted by it but the reviews on Nordstrom are mixed. Would be very much appreciated!

Would also love an update! The camel color looks chic for a business casual look.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]
