The Opinion Page: A $22 Plumping Face Mask

Jan 6, 2021

Is your skin feeling rough?  Dull?  Dry?  Do you need a boost?

Do I have a mask for you.

This Collagen Plumping Mask from Pixi was a total impulse purchase.  But my late-30s skin was feeling kind of dull and a little more tired than usual, which always makes my fine lines more pronounce, and I thought, “Why not?”

This no-rinse mask softens skin like a dream.  My skin feels baby soft when I use it.  It softens, but doesn’t erase fine lines.  Over time, I noticed a plumping effect that makes you look more rested and hydrated.  Basically, it gives you that post vacation glow.

I liked this mask so much, I swung by the Target to look for a few more Pixi products.  I snapped up this Peel and Polish scrub that uses fruit acids to decongest your clogged pores.  It’s a great scrub that does the job without overdoing it and drying out your skin.

I also grabbed this in-shower steam facial product.  I like the warming effect and the fact it feels luxurious to mask in the morning before work.  My only complaint is the scent.  It’s not overpowering, but it’s Jasmine and Lavender, which is not my favorite.

If you like clean beauty products that won’t break the bank, give Pixi by Petra a try.  Their mid-price products are well-made, useful, and made to care for and nourish skin.

Thanks for the rec! What are you using/what do you recommend for wrinkles/fine lines currently? Covid stress has certainly deepened mine 🙁

I love the Pixi products I’ve tried. They have a double cleanse in collaboration with Caroline Hirons- half the tub is a balm cleanser and the other half cream cleanser. I also use their glow tonic and retinol tonic. The only miss for me so far was their spray SPF- it left white dots all over my face so I had to rub it in. I was looking for something I could use over makeup to top up at the end of the day if I was going for outdoor drinks and theirs missed the mark.

I use and love Pixi’s Sheer Cheek Gel in Rosy. I’m very fair and it looks shockingly bright in the tube, but a tiny bit goes a long way (which also means a tube lasts me roughly forever). It’s great! But don’t buy it at Target – not sure why it’s $20 there when it’s $14 on the Pixi website.

Thanks for the recommendation – we could all use a little face help these days, esp one that doesn’t break the bank. Check out their under eye patches too – https://www.target.com/p/pixi-detoxifeye-facial-treatment—60ct/-/A-53963668
