The Beauty Find: Tooth Whitening

Oct 23, 2020

Last year, I decided to whiten my teeth for my wedding.  I looked into having a dentist do it, but it seemed like an unnecessary expense since I only wanted to freshen them up a bit.  Here are some products to help remove stains, whiten teeth, and refresh your smile for those Zoom calls.

The Full-Test One

GloLit LED Whitening System

The One for Sensitive Teeth

Arc Smile Amplifier One-Week Whitening Kit

The One in a Pen

AuraGlow Teeth Whitening Pen

The Toothpaste that Whitens

Colgate Optic White Renewal Toothpaste

So Belle, I am curious, which one did you use and were you happy with the results??

  2. Monica T. says:

I had been using the Glo whitening gel on it’s own for a while, and then picked up the full kit when it was on sale. I am really happy with the results.

Basically after I went to get a cleaning, I started the 10 day cycle of three x 8-minute whitening sessions a night.

Before the dental cleaning my teeth were a 6 on the shade chart (you can kind of see it in the picture there), after a cleaning it was a 5. After completing my whitening program I would say I was a 2, nearly a 1.

This is not a one and done process if you eat or drink ANY staining foods, and I’m a coffee devotee so I am probably back down the shade scale at this point with absolutely NO whitening since the 10-day session. What’s nice about have the gel is that you can do touch ups without the heat / light unit whenever you want to keep it at a nice level until your next full session.

I like the unit too, it charges via USB and it’s all automatic. You can install an app to control it but it also has a button. You can also buy extra mouth units but share the battery pack between partners. Everything came in a nice pouch and I had plenty of whitening gel and some left over for touch ups. Also, being available at Sephora meant I’m know when sales are happening and I can pick up the gel easily.

I want to flag the Colgate whitening toothpaste – I literally just ordered and received this last week. I decided to try it instead of my usual Crest whitening paste (I’m no stranger to whitening pastes and strips, and have always used Crest)…and it did not go well. It has 3% hydrogen peroxide, even in the enamel-safe version, which I quickly learned was way to strong for me and apparently many others. And I don’t even have sensitive teeth. I’m still having toothaches a week later. So I would DEFINITELY not recommend to those with sensitive teeth, and would urge caution to those without.

Great timing- I’ve been thinking about doing some whitening, and I have sensitive teeth, so I appreciate your recommendation. I feel like I’m in a slump and need something to help boost my confidence a bit!

Just wanted to chime in and say that I did the crest white strips many years ago and they were annoying and inconvenient, so about 4 years ago I paid to have my teeth whitened by the dentist. Holy hell I was not prepared for the intense, brain-racking pain that comes along with so-called “zingers” – intense, albeit short-lived bouts of pain in your teeth/gums that happen a few times every hour in the day that follows the whitening. I will never put myself through that again. I had fairly white teeth, but I love coffee and red wine too much to keep them white for long. I’ll probably try something for sensitive teeth in the near future – I’m hoping that methods have improved since the old white strips.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]
