Two Ways: Green Velvet Jeans

Sep 12, 2018

I don’t often wear pants, but when I do, I want them to be special.  Basic black has its place, but what about an amazing pair of green velvet jeans to add to the rotation?  Here are two ways to wear this unique alternative to jeans.

J.Crew High-Rise Velvet Jeans ($110, 4 colors)

How great are these jeans?  Every time I look at them, I’m almost grateful fall is here.  Almost.  These jeans come in petite and tall sizes as well.

Let’s talk about styling.

Gorjana Kellen Studs ($20) // BR Supersoft V-neck Sweater ($78) // Everlane Day Market Tote ($170) // Boden Evie Flats ($119)

Business Casual.  For this outfit, I wanted a look that was casual and easy with pops of interest.  The green pants are certainly interesting, as are the leopard flats.  You could wear this to work on Friday or to a casual brunch on Sunday.  It would also be great on a plane if you needed to arrive looking fresh.

The sweater is from Banana Republic, and it is a great piece.  V-necks look great on almost everyone, and the hem dips slightly in the back for a flattering rear view.  The sweater is also a cotton-poly blend for softness, good for those with wool allergies.  BR has some fabulous basic sweaters this season (some are even machine washable); don’t miss out on the sale.

For the earrings, I chose a pair of studs with a little something extra.  I also like these Minkoff pyramid studs and these incredibly cool, not to be missed Baublebar huggie drops.  You can also add a long pendant necklace if you need a bit more sparkle.

The shoes are a great leopard flat from Boden that I’ve had my eye on for a while.  I love the preppy, modern look of them.  Need something without the buckle and strap?  Try Sam Edelman. If you’re looking for something similar for less, don’t miss these Steven slingbacks.

For the hair, I would probably jazz it up with a twisted chignon.  If not, I would buy one of these great round hair clips from Urban Outfitters, and do a slightly messy half-up/half-down.

Gorjana Sayulita Earrings ($35) // See by Chloe Lace Sleeve Tee ($159) // Milly Astor Ruffle Clutch ($120) // Addison Ankle Strap Shoe ($60)

Friday Night. I envisioned this outfit as the perfect choice for cocktails with friends.  You want to look good in case you run into someone, and because dressing up is fun, but you don’t want to overdo it.  A few fun pieces, but still a t-shirt in jeans.

I love these earrings.  They are impactful, but light enough that they don’t look heavy.  I’m just obsessed.  Want an even cheaper thrill?  These $20 tortoise chandelier earrings from Dillard’s are amazing.

This top is a t-shirt with a bell sleeve, and while bell sleeves are a bit last year, these lace ones make it more current.  Want a different option?  Try this awesome H&M lace blouse.  Plus-size?  This Worthington blouse is a nice piece.

For the accessories, I chose this fun clutch because I wanted something a bit different.  For a more modern look, try this suede and leather mix Ragna clutch or this $28 simple bar-clasp clutch.  And the shoes are a total Aquazurra knock-off, but they’re really chic.

I would wear a voluminous ponytail if you have longer hair.  For shorter hair, I would do a messy low bun.  For the makeup, I would bring in a deep berry lipstick.  I like a sheer stain like the Lipstick Queen Hello Sailor, but if you like more coverage, try this NYX suede lipstick.
