“Nothing is work unless you’d rather be doing something else.” — George Halas

Raise Your Voice. How to revisit a pay increase with your boss.

In Her Shoes. My new favorite summer shoe: Loft’s low block heel sandal.

Spaced Invaders. The young Trumpies have hit D.C., and D.C. is hitting them right back.

The Cutting Edge. Anthropologie is having a big sale.  Love this $39 Flutterby work blouse and this $89 striped weekend dress.

Office Space. How many people can be in a meeting before it becomes unproductive?

Romeo Must Die. The Aaliyah makeup collection from M.A.C. is out.  I bought two lipsticks: More Than a Woman and Brooklyn Born.

Runaway Bride. “An Interview with the Woman Who Sold Me Her Wedding Dress.

Mirror, Mirror. This leaning mirror multi-tasks as a storage rack.  I also love this affordable, folding side table for any room in the house.

Other People’s Money. “I Stop Celebrities from Blowing Their Riches.”

Risky Business. I’m obsessed with Illesteva sunglasses.  These all black ones and white tortoise sunnies are slick.

Three Kings. Could this prioritization strategy lead to a guilt-free life?

I sometimes listen to the #Girlboss podcast when I travel.  The latest episode features tech journalist and author Emily Chang, so much good information about Silicon Valley, gender discrimination, and VC funding.  For example, did you know that in the late 1970s-early 1980s women made up 34% of computer science degrees, but now it’s just 18%?  She discusses how we got here and how we can get more women involved in tech.

Emily’s interview was so interesting, that I picked up her new book, Brotopia: Breaking Up the Boys Club of Silicon Valley.

I LOVE aaliyah and am obsessed with her. I’m so sad that her music isn’t available.

Wait, I didn’t know this? Why isn’t her music available? (I still have all my MP3s and burned CDs from college on my iTunes account).

  2. Kellie Marie Beargie says:

I sold my wedding dress a week after my wedding, 5 years ago. I’m not terribly sentimental about things. My best friend and I got a little cheap wine (or maybe we just had wine around, because us, I can’t remember), brought out my largest mirror for her. She loved it, and months later she Facebook messaged me pictures of “our” dress. I was so happy to see her so happy. She had confided that she was looking for my exact dress but couldn’t afford it new, and it was so wonderful to see her in it, so glowing. Would do it again in a heartbeat.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
