“If everything seems under control, you’re not going fast enough.” — Mario Andretti
Packing It In. Why it’s time to let go of being busy, because overfilling your schedule isn’t healthy. No one needs to be in demand all the time.
Da’Bomb. This Madewell bomber came in my Trunk Club this week. I’m keeping it because it’s nice to choose something outside your comfort zone once in a while.
Congratulations! Realistic birth announcements. (I laughed so hard.)
Stated. I’m stocking up on statement earrings for summer wedding season. These Ilume earrings are first on my list. Under-$30, I like these filigree tassels and these mod Lucky Brand drops.
All the Ws. If you’re struggling to find your sense of purpose, the first step is to find your why.
Heard. Need earrings for work? These $52 demi-fine huggie hoops are the only thing you need.
Dimpled. Man Repeller discusses the truth about cellulite. Only two things have ever improved the look of my cellulite, a massage stick and dry brushing, both improve circulation.
Faster. More greatness from Express. Add a real belt to this shirtdress for casual chic. Hello, cool faux leather jacket that doesn’t look cheap. And this bikini top has me thinking all the beachy thoughts.
One Word: Tetris. Ava Duvernay is just everything right now. I hate A Wrinkle in Time when I was forced to read it in 5th Grade, but I may have to see this movie because she’s just incredible.
Shoe Fetish. I don’t need new workout shoes, but the cool texture and colorful accent on these Adidas UltraBoosts make me think I might need new walking around shoes.
It’s a Struggle. How to handle the tumultuous days of unemployment. Because it happens to (almost) everybody, and it sucks.
Shine On. I bought my first pair of summer sandals today. They were just too bright and cheery to pass. I’m also thinking about this cheerful navy Talbots dress with yellow embroidery.
What I Am Reading. Beware the Past.
What I’m Baking. This no-knead Dutch Oven Bread.
What I Did. I finally kicked my Tom Ford eyeliner addiction, and replaced it with a Tom Ford eyebrow pencil addiction. We need a support group for this.
Do I need an animal print rug on my stairs? Probably not. Do I want one? Definitely, yes. Will Kyle go for it? Maybe it’ll distract me from the piles of laundry he leaves on the banisters to dry like we’re poor settlers on the plains who don’t own a dryer. Leopard rug it is!

The baby announcement article is hilarious. And so true. I took one look at my kids’ faces when they were born and looked at my husband and honestly asked each time if their nose would stay like that. They grew in to them. 🙂 Hence the phrase, “They’re so ugly they’re cute!”
I’ve made that bread a ton of times and it always turns out amazing. You can add herbs, nuts, etc. to it, make it whole wheat, or even turn it into foccacia. Highly recommend!
Belle, re: the banisters – the solution is the metal drying racks sold by ikea. They fold up, the don’t snag clothes, and you can train men to use them. (speaking from experience). Good luck!
Oh it’s not because we don’t have another space. It’s because he’s a messy person. He is untrainable.
As someone whose spouse is the same way, you have my sympathy.
Your comment pertaining to being busy all the time is so relevant. Living in DC, everyone (as you know!) talks constantly about how swamped they are, how important what they have to do is, etc etc. Every now and then it’s nice to remember- if I call in sick today, and do nothing but sit on my couch, nothing will fall into disarray and the country will plug along just fine for another day 🙂 Thanks for posting!

I’m so excited to see A Wrinkle in Time I bought the book and read it last weekend… it’s… not as good as I remember. It’s very religious and Meg is not the heroine I remember (she’s able to sort of save the day because she loves others, that’s her “secret weapon”). However, she appears to be a bit more of a badass in the trailer. In Ava I trust.
I’ve always assumed that a major appeal of the book for those who like it is that Meg saves the day using a stereotypically feminine power. Yes, it’s great to see women and girls kicking ass, but we need love more than we need violence. Moana has a similar ending.
Ha, I was also forced to read “A Wrinkle in Time” in fifth grade and loathed it. However I picked the book up again when I was in college as it was much better the second time around. So maybe adult you will enjoy the movie more than kid you enjoyed the book!
