Three for Thursday: Who’s Ready for Spring?

Feb 11, 2016

Sometimes, you just want to style a few outfits.  You see a fun piece, and you want to turn it into something.  Welcome to Three for Thursday.

Left, Mango Shawl Collar Blazer ($59) // Stella & Dot Moon Necklace ($59) // Forever21 Faux Leather Satchel ($29) // Mila Tortoiseshell Pump ($128) // Mango Fitted Dress ($99)

Olive and white is not a combination you see everyday, but I assure you, it works.  Add a pair of tortoise heels and a dark tan bag to pull it together. We also have a contrasting neckline issues to solve–crewneck vs. longline-shawl–and a long pendant necklace blends them nicely.

If you like the dress, but you’re afraid it might be too snug?  Buy the dress one size up and tailor as needed.

Plus-size?  This olive belted t-shirt dress is a good option for a relaxed office dress.

Middle, Pyramid Orbital Earrings ($58) // Fossil Elastic Belt ($48) // AT Signature Crossbody ($98) // Lucille Ankle Wrap Pump ($79) // Mango Outlet Trouser ($48) // Chelsea28 Peplum Poplin Shirt ($118)

Olivia Palermo did a chic collaboration with Chelsea28.  It’s available exclusively at Nordstrom.  This structured, peplum blouse is from that collection.

I added the belt to emphasize the waist.  It also helps bring some balance to the wide leg trouser by slimming the torso.  Also, if you wear wide-leg pants, you need to add some pointed toe pumps to lengthen the leg line.  Plus-size?  These Halogen wide-leg pants are a great choice.

Right, Joseph Doll Dress ($210) // Uniqlo Ines Short Sleeve Pullover ($39) // Zales Spiked Earrings ($85) // Little Mistress Clutch Bag ($35) // Calvin Klein Calida Pump ($58)

Wearing a boxy sweater or sweatshirt over a dress is a great way to cover up without breaking out the cardigans or blazers.  It’s also a great solution if you own a cocktail dress that is long enough for work, but the top is cut inappropriately (like this Cushnie et Ochs dress).

I also like the balance between the fitted dress and the boxy top.  It reminds me of one of my favorite dresses.

Finally, to add some more color, I chose these deep teal Calvin Klein pumps.  If you want to wear color in a sophisticated way, mix shades in the same color family–like teal and ice blue.

Love the outfit on the left. I have the Mural Slouchy Blazer from Nordstrom in white (similar to the Mango one) and an olive sheath that I haven’t quite figured out how to style–guess I will have to snap up those AT tortoise pumps that I’ve been ogling for the last few weeks. Thanks for the inspiration!

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]
