Ridley’s Pick-Up Sticks ($8)

Many of us have children on our Xmas lists.  Perhaps they are your children, or your nieces/nephews, cousins or the children of your friends.  And if you don’t see the little ones frequently, it can be tough to know what to buy for them.

When it comes to gifts for children, I’m a big believer in nostalgia gifts.  Pick-up sticks or another board/card game from your childhood could be a good gift.  (My family was also partial to Mancala.)  If the child likes books, your favorite story might make a good gift.  I’ve also gifted some of my favorite childhood toys, like this Snoopy Sno-Cone Maker and this EZ Bake Oven.

Depending on the age, gender and personality of the child, you can find a nostalgic game or toy in any price range.  Just ask the parents for a general idea of what the child is into and go from there.  Perhaps you can find a gift that the child will like that can also help you connect with him/her.
