Happy Hour: The Louisville Cooler

Sep 16, 2011

A lot of women are retiring their orange dresses and separates for Fall, but you don’t have to.  Orange, especially deep oranges and rust oranges, can easily be worn in the Fall.  So unless you bought coral instead of orange, don’t put your dresses into storage just yet.

As for the cocktail, it’s National Bourbon Heritage Month, so let’s celebrate with a little Maker’s Mark, shall we?

The Louisville Cooler

Add ice to a chilled cocktail shaker.  Fill with two parts bourbon, one part orange juice, half-part lime juice and 1 teaspoon pwder sugar.  Shake vigorously.  You want froth.

Pour into an old fashioned glass, garnish with a wide orange wedge on the glass.

This is an excellent cocktail to make in large batches.  Just make sure to serve it in a chilled bowl or pitcher with ice cubes that won’t melt and weaken the cocktail.

Lastly, if you can’t find pure lime juice, do not substitute the from concentrate crap in the little lime-shaped plastic squeeze bottle.  Blech.  And if all you can find is Rose’s Sweetened Lime, go ahead and omit the powdered sugar unless, of course, you were looking to slip into a diabetic coma.

Happy Hour

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
