ACM Red Carpet: Belle's Best and Worst

Apr 19, 2010

Growing up in the Wild Wild West, country music was the soundtrack of my formative years.  So it should come as no surprise that I spent my Sunday night watching the Academy of Country Music  Awards.  And while the ACM starlets may sing like angels, some of their fashion choices were positively hellish.  Thus, I present the Best and  Worst from the ACM Orange Carpet.

If you’ve spent the past decade bouncing from Broadway to soap operas only to land on the country charts, you need to exert a little extra effort to make a name for yourself.  And Laura Bell Bundy’s bombshell dress certainly accomplishes that goal.

This dress is printed, sequined, ruched, ruffled, slit-up-to-there, and backless. and while I would traditionally consider that too many embellishments, she manages to make it work.  A few more smokin’ hot turns on the carpet, and she’s sure to wind up a household name.

I love me some Miranda Lambert.  In fact, of been a fan since her turn on Nashville Star several years back.  But besides the color, nothing about this dress is flattering.

First off, you’re 27 not 47.  So lose the matronly dress.  Secondly, low-cut gowns only work on small-chested women.  Those with ample cleavage need not apply. Last of all, I do love the hair and makeup but the smoky eye doesn’t match the dowdy, droopy dress.

LeAnn Rimes isn’t a little girl anymore.  This thoroughly modern dress and hairstyle prove that country’s songstress is trying to be a little more rock and roll.  If only her moral compass was as finely tuned as her sense of style.

Apparently, Nicole Kidman is prepping for a role as a cater waiter who moonlights as a dominatrix. Or maybe this is an homage to Sgt. Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band?  Either way, this dress is truly awful.

While I love this gown, Taylor Swift needs a new look.  I’ve grown increasingly bored with her fixation on ethereal gowns with illusion detail and curly up-dos.  It’s time for the songstress to break out of her shell and embrace the fact that is only 21-years-old.  In other words, buy a cocktail dress.

If you get the chance, I’d be curious what your thoughts were on Carrie Underwood’s orange carpet and post-performance dresses? Thanks!

  3. Agreed across the board!

Taylor Swift should take Belle’s advice and apply it to her music style as well…I can’t ever tell what her new most popular song is because it always sounds just like the previous single before that…this girl needs to spice it up. The only thing that keeps me from hating her is that she seems so genuine, sweet, and good-hearted.
