Following the discovery of CeraVe, I began to wonder what other miracle products were hiding on the drugstore’s bottom shelf. How much more money could I be saving ifI expended a little more effort on the research side of shopping? Thanks to Allure magazine, I have discovered at least one more low-budget wonder: Pssst Dry Shampoo ($6).
Because I have fine hair, I find that if I don’t shampoo, my follicles become depressingly limp. However, shampooing every day dries out my ends. This follicular conundrum led be to Ojon Dry Shampoo to leave my hair looking clean and volumized, but at $23 per can, my shampoo free days were getting expensive.
Pssst Instant Spray Shampoo works exactly the same as its more expensive competitors: spray the product onto the roots like hairspray, fluff hair, brush out. The spray then absorbs excess oil and leaves the hair volumized and feeling just washed. It’s great for days when you have breakfast meetings or after a late night out. And unlike powder dry shampoos, it doesn’t flake off like dandruff as the day wears on. This is a major plus.

does this work on dark brown/black hair? i haven’t found a dry shampoo that doesn’t end up looking like i’m wearing a "powdered wig".
I have medium brown hair and I have never had a problem.

I also just made the switch from expensive dry shampoo to Pssst and it is the exact same product! I’m a little embarrassed that I used to pay so much for the stuff, but it works wonderfully.
I was a little sheepish to when I tried it and realized that I had been paying four times as much too.
Tried Pssst after reading this post, and it’s a miracle product. I’ve used expensive brands before, and never had these results. Amazing. Thank you for finding this!
I discovered powder shampoo first in 2002 and have been following the market closely ever since… mostly trying to find a less expensive product! Here is the evolution and review (dates are approximate):
2002
38$/bottle online only. Bumble and Bumble loose colored hair powder
I had to mix blonde and brown to get my color. It worked well but the dispenser left something to be desired.
2008
36$/canister high-end salons. Bumble and Bumble arisol spray powder
Intrigued, I had to buy it. I was running out of the older kind of powder and couldn’t find it anywhere. HUGE disappointment. Unable to mix the powder to match my haircolor, the dispenser would clog and the overspray would speckle my entire bathroom.

15$/canister ULTA. Big Sexy Hair Spray Dry Shampoo
This is the best dry shampoo product I’ve found for lifting limp locks. The only problem is I’ve found it seems to have a lot shorter life span (less product? less arisol pressure? not sure) than other products… or maybe I just used it a lot. It was advertised as “clear.” I was wary when I first started using it because I had chocolate hair at the time. It was fantastic. There was no white dust, and it was stiff (for volume) but the powder/clay itself was really fine but still had enough body to it to add texture and lift to my style.

$47/bottle ULTA. Albierto [something fancy name whatever] – loose powder – rice and starch dry shampoo
This stuff smells good, and works well. Satisfactory volume. Adequately absorbs oil. But it is expensive and doesn’t come with a great way to apply it. They have a small bottle that goes for $27 I think. I don’t remember because I was ticked it was so expensive.

$4-5/canister ULTA. Tressime Spray Shampoo
Really just mediocre. Leaves more visible white powder/clay than other brands. Doesn’t seem to last throughout the day. I had to reapply at lunch, which I’ve not had to do with any other brands. The smell is pretty bad too.

$4/canister ULTA. Psssssstttt Dry Shampoo Spray
LOVE IT! Easily the best version yet. It doesn’t quite provide the volume Big Sexy did, but really who can compare to BIG SEXY VOLUME? Left my hair feeling silky and looking clean. Smells great, very light scent. My one little canister has lasted about 2 months which is GREAT for how much I use it (about 3x per week). I have a lot of hair so it sucks to wash and style it every day. If you spray too long in one spot, of course you’re going to get white residue, but that will happen with any of these products. It doesn’t normally leave traces of white – it is truely clear. I can’t believe they’ve made it so cheap, and it is this good.
All in all I was shocked to find Pssssstttt. They even had a promotion on my first bottle for a full rebate. I’m pretty excited about this product, but don’t take my word for it. Go save your tresses from daily hair dryer heat and try the dry shampoo.
