The Range: Packable Puffer Jackets

Aug 22, 2024

The weather in the Rocky Mountain West and Pacific Northwest can be unpredictable. It might be 75-degrees and sunny at noon, and 52-degrees and raining by 1:00PM. As such, packing for travel is a mess.

My suitcase often has swimsuits packed in with sweater, and sandals sharing space with puffer coats.  Luckily, several brands make stylish, wearable puffer coats that are great for travel.

The peplum on this Soia & Kyo Packable Down Puffer is amazing.  Green hue found here.

This Land’s End Wanderweight Jacket is more traditional, but the changing puff-pattern is cool.

Bernardo is the No. 1 brand for packable puffers, so finding one of their coats for <$60 is a great deal.

Plus-Size

This Athleta Whisper Puffer Jacket is the one I own, it comes in a sizes XXS to 3X.  I can’t recommend it highly enough.

Do you think the Soia & Kyo would be warm enough for a DC winter?

DC winters always struck me as unpredictable. I think you could get away with this march through november, maybe not deep winter depending on the year.

I was not convinced about puffers until I saw stylish old people wearing them. I am plus size and got mine from the REI resale store online in a color I love with a flattering cut. Love! And yes, it rolls up and packs so easily
