<$30 Gifts: The Best Lotion

Nov 18, 2021

During last summer’s protests, several retailers and influencers started highlighting Black-owned brands.  That was how I found the body butter that saves my dry skin from becoming itchy and flaky every winter.  If you need a stocking stuffer, or a gift for someone who has everything, this is one that I get positive text messages about a week later.

54 Thrones Body Butter uses shea oil sourced from growers in Uganda and Ghana and other ingredients sourced .  The butters are made in the USA, where they are mixed with avocado and almond oils.  This scent, the Ghanaian Coconut, is my favorite.  The Lemongrass is also nice.  And if you prefer your beauty products unscented, they make a version without fragrance.

All of 54 Thrones ingredients are sourced from small farms and makers in Africa.  I also like their black soap as a natural alternative to antibacterial face washes to treat acne.

One note about this product: The packaging is very beautiful, but hard to squeeze making it tough to get the product out.  I had a toothpaste key in my bathroom that I used, and that solved all my problems.  Also, toothpaste squeezers are a surprisingly practical stocking stuffer.

I love this body butter. It fixed the dry patches on my calves that emerge every winter and basically healed my cracked feet.  It also looks really nice all wrapped up, so it’s a good gift.

Nordstrom is currently running a deal with these – if you spend $60 on 54 Thrones products, you get a free gift of a full-size hand cream.
