Basics Week: V-Neck T-Shirts Are Life

Apr 26, 2021

Theme weeks are the only way I can keep my mind filled with ideas right now.  Otherwise I just stare at my screen for half an hour with the same thought running circles in my mind: What the hell am I blogging about tomorrow?

This week, I wanted to cover some of the incredible basics that I use as the foundation of my wardrobe.  The pieces you buy, wear out, and then immediately have to replace so that you won’t be left without them when you need them.  Today, we need to talk about v-neck t-shirts.

I like a t-shirt that’s a little loose, but not too loose.  I need them full opaque or with just a hint of sheer.  And the v-neck is more flattering than a crewneck on me.  Here are some choices.

Please do a post like this on jeans! In theory, I like the return to heavier, cotton, more relaxed jeans, but I can’t do the high-waisted mom jeans or flood pants that the kids are wearing. I’d love to see a variety of options like this post of more fashion-forward yet flattering and age-appropriate options.

I second this! As I prepare to return to a life that includes structured pants, most of my old jeans are no longer working for me, and I’m striking out so far in my search for new ones.

Has anyone tried Amazon’s new ‘custom’ t-shirt option? The price point is really reasonable, and I like the concept, but I haven’t heard of any real (non-influencers) trying it.

I’ll order one tonight. Sounds like a good Saw It On Social.

I didn’t like mine. I did the more boxy cropped fit, and it’s too narrow in the shoulders so the sleeve point out like wings. I wasn’t sure how the return would go since the tag has my name in it, they refunded me my money but didn’t make me send it back. So now it’s strictly and undershirt for half zips, which I wear often.

I have ordered the custom to check them out. But I really like the Amazon brand v-neck t-shirts. The white is opaque with a nudeish bra, and fitted but not too much. The three pack of black/grey/white is in constant rotation fir my professional zoom life.

I’m a big fan of a linen T. Jcrew, Gap, and Banana each have great v-neck options. They’re a little more sheer than a normal white T, but they are great for the weekend, or as a layering piece with a blazer or cardigan. I just bought several from the Gap because the price and the fit were perfect.

Looking forward to the rest of this theme week! I just stocked up on Banana Republic tshirts. I similarly wanted something loose but not too loose, with a thicker fabric.

I like theme weeks. It’s like “How to Build a Wardrobe 101.”

I really like Gap Factory Favorite T-shirts, in crew and v. I always size to fit my shoulders / chest and the drape at the waist is nice. Because t-shirts is the one thing I buy annually, I like that there is always a deal and I can afford to get a variety of colors and neck styles.

I love American Giant for t-shirts, but they don’t have the same fun colors as some other stores. They’re mostly neutrals, which works great for my closet. Their clothes are expensive, but they last forever!

I am a huge fan of Universal Standard’s V-Rex/T-Rex t-shirts. The fabric is soft and substantial enough that I can wear them under suits, but they still look good paired with more casual things. As a tall-ish cusp-sized person (5’10”, 16-18), the length is wonderful – long enough to be flattering but not dowdy, with a slightly curved hem. It also hits that streamlined but not tight mark. They’re not cheap, but they’ve held up really well in the wash (machine wash cold, hang dry). Whenever US has a sale, I pick up a couple.

I’m a big fan of type of feel I get from a shirt, not necessarily a brand, but J Jill makes some oh-so-soft tees that are heavenly. I have texture sensitivity, so the feel of the shirt is incredibly important.
