There is a woman at the beginning of all great things. — Alphonse de Lamartine

Cutting It (Out). A lawyer was told to serve employees cake at company parties. When she complained, she was fired.  Now, she’s fighting back.

In the Bag. Loving this $84 bright tote bag for summer.

Growth Strategy. Are we finally learning to embrace aging?

Black-and-White. This printed a-line skirt from Nic+Zoe is so great. Plus-size? Try this Modcloth version.

Waiting Game. “I had a great job interview. Why haven’t I heard back?

Wedded Bliss. I may have to ask Kyle to buy me this Mrs. ring.

Made Over. Obama Chief of Staff, Alyssa Mastromonaco, talks about career and beauty products with Into the Gloss.

Sale Priced. This Rebecca Minkoff flash sale is amazing.  So many crossbody bags for summer travel.

Ladder Climber. At what age do you reach your peak salary?

Spritzed On. This pomelo perfume is the perfect summer scent, so light and citrusy.

Nothing, Nada. How to resist the “attention economy” and love doing nothing.

Have you been personally victimized  by Tequila?  Kyle has, so he won’t let me serve these delicious-looking Cara Cara Margaritas at our summer functions.  It’s really too bad.  Perhaps one of your ladies can find someone who will serve them with glee.

Why am I thinking about Margaritas?  Because it’s only Tuesday, and I need it to be Saturday.  Solidarity with the anyone else who is having a long week.

I feel you on the margarita issue! Except for me it’s my love of a summer G&T with muddled cucumber and my SO’s aversion to even catching a whiff of gin after a decade + ago poor choice with said spirit in college, ha!

    • Belle says:

We’re also a gin free house due to my allergies. But that’s basically Kyle’s reaction; he smells it and the he’s basically dry heaving.

  2. Julie says:

What is your preferred brand of tequila? I enjoy margaritas, but have never tried making them at home.

    • Belle says:

I buy the Casamigos Blanco or Anejo, at least I used to, until I lived in a home where Tequila is banned.

  3. Lindsay says:

People don’t think cake is a big deal but it is a HUGE deal. I actively avoid cake. I was telling one of our admins about this, and the next time we had cake she ordered a cupcake cake! I thought it was brilliant. Looked like a cake, but everyone could just grab their own.

    • Anna says:

I forgot to which article you were referring, and I thought you just hated cake. I’m a baker, so I was appalled! But I get what you mean. I was usually the cake cutter and brought in all the birthday cakes, because it’s what I love doing (the baking, the cutting because everyone else mangled the cake), but my offices were small and at least half female. It would definitely set a bad precedent in a large office.

  4. e says:

That cake article made my blood boil.

  5. EAC says:

Love that you always include a plus size option. While the Modcloth option you provided is nice, I love the Nic+Zoe skirt. Checked Nic+Zoe site directly and they have it in plus. And it’s a lot cheaper than what Lord and Taylor is charging.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
