Getting dressed up for the holidays is so fun, but how do you feel festive if the dress code is casual? Jazz up your sweaters and jeans with a fun makeup look and a cool hair accessory. Here are some of my favorites.
Hair accessories come in a few categories: pins, barrettes, clips, headbands, etc.. They all have different uses, so let’s separate by hair style.
Updos. Embellished bobby pins are a lovely accent for updos. These $8 Queen Bee hair pins are adorable. I also like these Cara Crystal bobby pins and these pearl-accented ones from Baublebar. Looking for a messy updo to accessorize with pins? Try this one from The Small Things Blog.
Half-up/half-down is the hairdo of choice for a clip. This twisted halo style and this teased crown half-up are both lovely options. This minimalist circle clip is great for parties, but simple enough for work.
Pulled-Back. Wavy, pulled-back-over-one-ear styles are very popular right now. This gorgeous $10 leaf clip from ASOS is a cute option. World Market has this $5 gold, bird clip that has a dove of peace feel to it. To get fuller waves, try adding some dry texturizing spray.
Ponytail. Not into all the sparkle and shine? Grab an easy bow-accented ponytail holder. I like both this thin, delicate velvet ribbon and this oversized, sheer bow.
Down. Headbands are making a comeback. This gold, star-accented Cara headband is a really fun piece. Turban-style headbands are also popular. I like this octagon-printed headband in silk from Tory Burch.
So this holiday, when heading to a casual gathering, break out a fun hair accessory and some great lipstick, and make it a party.

I love the V clip in the bottom left picture! Do you know where it’s from?
I was curious, too — I found it on Neiman Marcus but the price is pretty shocking. I’d try Etsy for something similar and affordable.

Pricy.
I can’t seem to find the link to the cool gold accessory with the french twist? Sorry if I’m missing it!
It’s not in the post. It was $400+ from Leletny. There is a similar one available for purchase at Anthro. I didn’t add it because it had such poor reviews.
I love the delicate stars throughout the half pulled back twist…but I don’t see them in the post. Did you have a source for these??
Look up “star hair twists”. Many options on Amazon and Etsy.
Me too! I may browse Etsy to look for similar items. Although I wonder if this is a single accessory or if it has multiple pieces.
(As in it could simply be large pieces of glitter and small stars placed throughout the hairstyle)
Search hair gems on Etsy or Amazon.
