When I stand before God at the end of my life, I would hope that I would not have a single bit of talent left, and could say, ‘I used everything you gave me’. — Erma Bombeck

Cup of Jo talks to the owner of this chic 175 sq ft studio.  Do you live in a small space?  Could you live in a small space?  I lived in a 425 sq ft studio for 8 years.  It was fine for just me, not sure I could have survived sharing it though.  Kyle and I can barely get by without separate bathrooms when we travel.

Just moved out of a 290 sq ft studio, and I loved it. Honestly, with better sunlight and closet space it would have been perfect. Organized and clear rules about cleaning, I could totally live with a significant other in that amount of space, or at least my boyfriend who has like no wardrobe, but never kids, or even a baby.

  2. Murphy says:

Accompanied a friend to a conference she was speaking at this weekend, her fellow panelist was wearing a pink power suit and WOW. She looked phenomenal! I think it’s a gamechanger.

  3. SC says:

I’m not sure how big my studio was (425 maybe?), but I lived in it for 8 years and it was awesome. It had a walk-in closet and a full bathroom and a great kitchen area. Loved it so much. It was truly meant for 1 person though, which meant that I never had more than 1-2 people visit at a time and my boyfriend kinda hated it too.

    • Anna says:

I managed to have two dinner parties of about 4 or 5 friends in my 290 sq ft space. Granted, we ate on the floor around my coffee table, but it worked.

  4. Christine says:

I was feeling a little wild and purchased a pale pink Stella McCartney blazer during the Net A Porter Salem’s 50% off. I initially had doubts about how practical it was but soon realized that it is awesome and I wear it tons. Don’t think I could get away with a full pink suit in the work place though.

  5. K says:

Between donations, memberships, and online shopping I get so much mail I don’t need it usually outnumbers the mail that is actually relevant/useful/necessary to my life. I’m a big believer in snail mail though, send postcards out to friends not infrequently, so sometimes I’ll get stuff in return. That’s fun.

  6. Southern J says:

I have had that LL Bean raincoat for 7 years and have used extensively Light enough to take when traveling. One of those timeless purchases.

PS love your blog, older reader trying to keep everything relevant

  7. Jo says:

I live in a. studio, although larger than the one above. I love it. It keeps me organized and decluttered and I only own things that I truly love. But it’s def. meant for one person!

  8. SN says:

I tend to LEAN on the side of thinking “Lean In” is indeed irrelevant and naive, after a long career spent working hard and seeing the rewards go to those with little or no talent, for reasons that have nothing to do with either performance or ability. Considering what is now going on at Facebook I do not need advice from an entitled silly woman who has no credibility whatsoever.

    • Sally says:

I think there’s a pretty vast middle ground between thinking someone’s advice is not relevant or helpful to you, and calling her an “entitled silly woman with no credibility”, which plays on the worst stereotypes that people have about successful, highly visible women.
