10th Commandment: Business Casual

Nine West Speakup Flat ($69)

When I think about business casual, I think about flats.  Mostly because my feet equate casual with comfort.  But that doesn’t mean that comfort can’t be stylish.

These Nine West Speak Up flats are fairly comfortable.  I own them in lipstick red, but they come in twelve other colors including calf-hair leopard (shown).  So if you’re looking for a sub-$75 flat that is of better-than-average quality and durability, give this one a try.

Another flat I can vouch for is the BP Moveover Flat ($49).  I have the black, they also come in tan.  They’re comfortable, but I had to have the toe box stretched a little to accommodate my high arches.

I chose leopard because I wanted a versatile flat for the autumn.  If you prefer a color, burgundy is a great option. Check out these toe-cap Steve Madden Kailey flats, which are a Nicholas Kirkwood homage.  Paprika is also a good choice.  I like these orange-red suede Dolce Vita Laci flats.  If you like green, try these pine-colored flats from Seychelles.

Want flats that go beyond basic?  The D’orsay flat is popular right now, and while some of them look like elf slippers, I like this metallic, studded pair from Steve Madden.  I also love these slipper-inspired flats from Sole Society with a geometric print.  These open-back, ankle-strap flats from Charlotte Russe also caught my eye, as did these snakeskin and black flats from Dolce Vita.

    Belle,
I love the look of leopard but am paranoid about calf hair or suede shoes. Can you recommend a patent leopard or tortoise flat?

    Many thanks,
