Two Ways: Bright Pink Blazer

Jan 31, 2012

Jacket: Slim Line Soft Jacket (Oasis, $120)

From the Left, Shoes: Banana Republic Kate Platform ($120) Bag: Banana Republice Leighton Tote ($150) Earrings: Small Clam Shell Earrings ($145) Blouse: similar Zara Bow Blouse ($80) Pants: Minnie ankle pant in twill ($80)

From the Right, Earrings: Kate Spade Gumdrop Studs ($38) Bag: (sold out) Shoes: Giuseppi Zanotti Snake Pumps ($650) Tank: Sequin Front Vest ($64) Jeans: Joe’s Visionaire Skinny ($120)

For Casual Workdays.  This outfit was inspired by a similar look found on Pinterest.  I like the idea of mixing a slightly boxy, bright jacket with a skinny pant.

To soften up the look, I added a tie neck blouse in sheer chiffon.  As you may have noticed, this is my go to blouse.  It’s more feminine that a button up and more substantial than a tee or tank style.

Add some simple beige accessories, and the look is complete.  I like this simple tote for work because it’s versatile and can hold books, file folders or a small laptop or iPad.  As for the earrings, they are a small shell shape that adds a bit of whimsy to the outfit.

For the hair, I would do a long, structured wave.  For the makeup, a pink cheek, lightly-tinted lip and a taupe eye.

For Late Night Cocktails.  Sometimes you’ll be invited out for a drink late at night, when it seems silly to waste a good dress on such a short date.  So don’t.  Instead, grab a brightly-colored blazer and stay warm and comfortable while still being stylish.

Here, I added skinny denim and a gold sequined tank to create a sparkly going out look.  Add a gold clutch and blush-colored high, high heeled shoe to pull it all together.  Also, when dealing with sparkles, it’s best to get the jewelry simple, so these simple studs are more than enough.

For the hair, I’d do a twisted or braided updo.  For the makeup, I would do dramatically-lined eyes and a sparkly highlighter on your cheekbones over your regular blush.

P.S.: If you want to do a skirt instead of pants, I wouldn’t do a pencil.  This jacket is a bit too boxy for that.  A pleated skirt could work though.

I love Minnie pants (actually I prefer the GAP version of these), and I do sometimes wear them to work with longish tops, typically on Fridays. But when I do, I occasionally wonder whether this is committing the ultimate sin of not wearing pants. You think wearing Minnies as pants is acceptable, Belle? Do you think that the top has to be a certain length like with leggings?

  2. Belle says:

Well, the Minnie's have a waistband and pockets, which I believe puts them in the pants category on the “Am I wearing pants?” flowchart. I think you need to cover at least part of your rear for style's sake, since it makes your tush look smaller. And I think high heels help, but flats are acceptable as well.

I think if you can pull off Minnies, they're fine as pants. HOWEVER, if your Minnies are so tight that you are wearing them as a substitute for leggings, you should probably go up a size for work or skip them altogether!

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]
