For Casual Monday.  To wear a bright pink pencil skirt to the office, you need to choose a blouse that tones down the look.  In a previous post, with a similar skirt, I used a basic white blouse and a navy tee.  For this post, I wanted something that wouldn’t overpower but was still a bit fun, so I chose this pink and grey blouse.

I always forget how tough it is to find stylish grey bags and grey shoes, especially when you’re not willing to pay Fifth Avenue prices.  However, these basic grey patent pumps and grey satchel certainly do the trick.

For the jewelry, I decided to add another color to the mix.  All grey would have been terribly boring.  I chose this bright green because it coordinates but still stands out, and added a gold stud earring in a slightly different shape.

I always prefer to wear my hair up with a tie neck top.  There’s just something about the way a twisted updo and a bow blouse go together.  As for the makeup, a little bit of pink gloss (not neon, just pink), defined eyes and a bit pink blush, lightly applied to the apples of the cheeks.

For a Dinner Date.  This outfit builds a colorblocked look using the hot pink skirt and a kelly green top.  (You could also try orange, purple, red or cobalt.)  And this look is certainly not for people who faint at the idea of color.

I decided to use a chandelier earring in a complimentary color for this outfit.  I also decided not add a stack of bracelets or a necklace because I like it when such a strong earring stands alone.  If you prefer to layer on the jewelry, I would suggest a gold cuff bracelet and a gold ring as opposed to a necklace.

Miss M is a HUGE fan of Jean-Michel Cazabat shoes.  She swears that they are as comfortable as they are stylish, but I remain a bit skeptical.  I do love these strappy mules, they’re the perfect summertime evening shoe.

For the hair, I would either wear it down and stick straight (break out that flat iron) or in a low, stick straight ponytail with the hair wrapped around the elastic.  I would paint my nails pink, and if I was feeling especially bold, I’d choose a bright pink lipstick.  If not, a nude with just a hint of pink would look nice as well.  And don’t forget, when wearing color, you NEED to wear eyeliner and lots of mascara.

The dinner date outfit makes me think of watermelons (in a good way). Very summery!

Love the kelly green silk top. I bought a fuschia tulip skirt on super sale at Banana at the end of last season and have only worn it twice to the office because I think the color is so out there. This has definitely inspired me to try some new styles of tops with it.

Love the skirt and the dinner date outfit!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
