For the Office. If you have a casual office holiday party in your future, this could be a great outfit because it combines work appropriate separates with a bit of sequins. I like the sequin stripes because they offer a bit of multi-colored glitz without being too overwhelming.
I’ve been drooling over this Elizabeth & James blouse for awhile. I also like this tie neck blouse (shocking, I know) from the same maker. But if you are looking for a silky ivory blouse for under-$100, try this Antonio Melani Tie Neck for $42 or this DKNY blouse for $94.
I added grey trouser to pull in the silver/pewter stripe in the sweater. For a more casual holiday look, try it with these ivory corduroys from Ann Taylor.
The accessories are fairly straight forward: pearl studs, a stripe ring to match the sweater and a cool grey tassel bag. If you are looking for a less expensive bag, this grey and ivory colorblock is interesting and this slouchy tassel bag comes in a myriad of colors for $69. I also added the purple flats to add some life to the outfit.
For the hair, I would wear it down. You could curl it under, put it in waves or wear it straight. For the makeup, I would wear a white highlighter on the eyes with a gold wash of shadow and a smudgy, dark coal liner. I would also add a raspberry gloss.
For the Weekend. I wanted to add a color, since the Two Ways posts have featured a lot of ivory and black lately. So I chose a bright orange blouse to pair with the cardi. This one is sold out in most sizes, but Equipment has a similar blouse available. And if you need a plus size blouse, this one is $76.
These Paige Skylines might be my new favorite jean. Being a bit hippy, I always worry about skinny jeans over emphasizing my legs, but these ones don’t have the magnifying effect I’ve seen in some jeans. I also on these LOFT modern skinny jeans, and I think they’re a good alternative for under-$75.
I own these flats in the leopard and black shade, and I love them. They are surprisingly comfortable right out of the box. I also own the earrings in this post, but sadly, they are sold out. If you’re looking for a gray and gold stud, I really like these earrings for $32. This ring is also pretty sweet for $14, but if you’re looking for something a little sturdier, I like this enamel ring for $75. But if a pop of color is what you are after, I would try this purple faceted dome ring, though the grey is nice too, esp. for $33.
I added the brown bag to cut down on the gray. If you like the relaxed look but not the Coach price, this flap satchel is $80.
For the makeup, I would wear a bit of rosy blush and a taupe shadow. For the hair, I would pull it into a low ponytail or a half-up/half-down style.
I share your love of sequins, but can't seem to get up the nerve to wear it to the office. Your “at the office” approach is makiing me feel a little more brave and hopefully I will be giving it a try before the holidays. Thanks Belle.
What a beautiful outfit set! I especially love the Hutton trousers but question if, at 5'2″, I could pull them off. Maybe the leg is not as wide as it appears?
I own the brown Hutton trouser and their roomy but not that wide. I'm 5'4″ and I think they look fine.
excellent! another way to wear sequins to the office is exactly what I need so that I can keep buying sequin items!
Ann Taylor Loft has many tasteful sequin items right now. Most are sold out online. They're the perfect amount of sparkle for the holidays or an office party without looking cheap or tacky.
