One Stop Outfit: For Sweater Weather

Oct 7, 2021

For the first time in years, I am excited about the clothes at J.Crew.  They look like the early-mid 2000s J.Crew — simple, classic, timeless.  This outfit is a great option for when you need something that looks nice, but also casual.

Most J.Crew pieces are available in misses, plus, petite, and tall.  There’s also a 30% off sale on many pieces, code SALEONSALE.

Interlocking Loop Earrings

Ribbed Turtleneck Sweater

Vintage-Slim Corduroy Pants

Great picks, Abra! Does anyone else feel like dropped shoulders make them look broad? I have been avoiding buying any more dropped shoulders, but they’re everywhere this season!

    • Erin says:

Not just you! I avoid them as well because they seem to add visual bulk. But some tops are cut in such a way that the drop shoulder works out ok.

    • B says:

I’m tall-ish with fairly broad shoulders. I find that when the dropped shoulder is only a little dropped (i.e. the seam hits within ~2 inches of where a properly-fitted shoulder seam would be; usually when it’s designed to hit 3-4 inches from the normal seam location) it really emphasizes my shoulders. I avoided the design for a long time because of this. But if the seam is further down the arm than that it can look drapey as designed. Generally I try to avoid it if the seam is higher on my arm than the widest part of my shoulder muscle. Just my rule of thumb!

  2. Jamie says:

How exactly would you style those cordoroy pants? I’m intrigued.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
