The Find: A Flirty, Flattering Dress

May 5, 2021

Like many of us, I have gained weight during COVID.  Since I was already at a higher than usual weight pre-COVID, I am now the heaviest I have ever been.  Accepting this change in my body, and offering up some grace to the body that carried me through a pandemic in one piece, has been tough.

And as we begin to emerge from the pandemic quarantine, I find myself uncomfortable wearing the types of clothing I wore pre-pandemic.  Going to work in suits and sheath dresses was both a nice bit of normalcy and a bit torturous.  So as I look toward my summer attire (yay! work from home), I want pieces that are comfortable, flattering, and fun.

This dress from LOFT is all three.

I mean, how bright and cheery is LOFT’s Triple Cloth Dress?  The crinkled fabric is perfect for lounging or travel (if we get there this summer).  The cut is really forgiving and flattering.  It’s just a swingy, flirty frock.

Oh, and did I forget to mention it has pockets?

My one purchasing note is that the cut is loose enough that I would recommend sizing down.  I bought my true size at first and it was a bit shapeless.  One size down gave me a more defined waist area and a look that was playful instead of baggy.

Sadly, LOFT does not make this same dress in plus-sizes.  I did find this Foxcroft No-Iron Linen dress in the same pretty guava shade and this darker linen-blend, tiered dress from Lane Bryant.

Hey, I hope this isn’t creepy – and I know we all feel the way we feel about our bodies – but I follow you on IG and I think you look fab. Do whatever makes you feel happy (personally I would like to lose 10lbs) because it’s your body and your comfort zone, but just wanted to share my thoughts.

Just in case you haven’t heard the news, LOFT is ending their plus size line by this fall. They announced it (ha) by responding to a comment on their IG and the reason they gave was financial difficulties due to COVID. (I could write a whole post on the BS that is that reasoning.) So while they certainly didn’t make every straight-size style in plus before, what’s left now is really the dregs as they wind down.

Thanks for pointing this out- the decision to discontinue the plus line was so disappointing

I recently tried on a dress from Loft and my usual size is a 12/14 and I had to size down to an 8 (I’ve never been an 8 in my life). so I suspect that they’re doing away with the plus-sizing but then inflating the straight sizing which will be super annoying when trying to order anything online.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern
