Happy Hour: Ginned Up

Nov 8, 2019

Years ago, I walked into a bar and ordered a martini.  The bartender made me a gin martini, instead of a vodka one.  And 90-seconds later, I was on my way to the hospital in full anaphylaxis.  Fun times.  But every now and again, I spot a cocktail that looks delicious, even if it is made with gin.

This libation from Craft & Cocktails mixes Meyer lemons (which are a hair sweeter than regular lemons) and sage to create a frothy, sour cocktail.  And the honey syrup that goes along with this cocktail is delicious.  It’s so simple (just honey and water), but I made some and am now keeping it in the fridge for tea and cocktails.

I wear a lot of simple sweaters in the winter.  Sweater and jeans.  Sweater and pencil skirt.  Sweater and skinny trousers.  Dressing them up is a challenge, and one of my best tools is a chic scarf.

This Shiraleah Leopard Scarf is a bold option.  It looks best with black and light neutrals.   Love an oversized scarf?  Try this one from Treasure and Bond (black, ivory, pink) and also in pretty fall colors (navy, rust, shagreen).  Prefer prints?  Try this black-and-white patch scarf from AllSaints, a subtler take on leopard.

Looking for a scarf to go with outerwear?  Nordstrom has a $99 fringed scarf in a wide selection of colors.

Wait, we’re missing a critical part of the story! are you allergic to gin? What caused the anaphylaxis?

Don’t you just love food allergies you think you are dealing safely with and then they throw in the ingredients shouldn’t be there? I’m allergic to potatoes and eating ice cream in Paris sent me to the hospital. Apparently potatoes in Sicilian ice cream is a thing.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
