Capitol Hill Style’s March Madness Challenge

2

2013finalfour-sm

Our March Madness tournament is something of a tradition here at Capitol Hill Style.  But unlike most office or friend pools, we don’t play for beer or cash, we play for fashion-y prizes.  In the past, I’ve given away magazine subscriptions and Birchbox gifts, but this year, I thought I’d cut to the chase and giveaway something that any woman (or man, as the case may be) can use: Nordstrom gift cards.

The first place finisher will win $75 to Nordstrom, second place will pick up $50 and third place will win $25.  To enter, follow this link, the password is chs.

Brackets must be completed by the time the tournament begins at noon Thursday, so mark your calendars.

Blown Away: Drybar Is Coming to D.C.

21

For all of the blowout lovers in the crowd, Drybar is coming to D.C. on October 19th.  There will be one location in Georgetown and another in Bethesda.

Blowouts at Drybar are $40 and include the wash.  You can also choose the type of blowout you want, which is intriguing (click here for photos).  Drybar also offers updos for those times when you need to attend a formal work event on short notice.

And if you’re a frequent flyer, Drybar offers memberships, called bartabs, to help you save money and get more bang for your buck.

So check ‘em out!  Maybe if they really take off we can convince the powers that be to open up another location somewhere a little closer to civilization (aka Metro) than Georgetown.

Buy Your VIP District Sample Sale Tickets Now

0

It’s that time of year again, District Sample Sale is right around the corner!

Whenever I publicize DSS, everyone asks me, “Belle, do you ever buy anything there?”  Last year, I bought a Milly dress and a grey clutch.  I also purchased two scarves that I wore the weaving out of this Spring.  So yes, I have found things in the past, and I will probably find things this year.

So if you want to shop with your friends, sip champagne, nibble on great hors d’oeuvres and donate a bit of money to a worthy charity, you should grab a friend and attend the District Sample Sale.  And I highly recommend buying the VIP ticket, because that extra hour may not seem like it matters, but it does.

To purchase tickets to District Sample Sale, visit this site.  To learn more about the Sitar Arts Center, this year’s chosen charity, click here.

Dress for Success House vs. Senate Clothing Drive

5

“Dress for the job you want, not the job you have” has always been this blog’s mantra. But what if you’re a low-income woman trying to enter the working world for the first time?  Where do you turn to help you build the wardrobe of suits and dresses that will help you land a better job–and a better future?

Dress for Success provides interview and business attire for women looking to enter the professional workforce.  They also provide mentoring, networking and career development tools.  To date, Dress for Success has helped more than 500,000 women work towards self-sufficiency.

Tomorrow, Dress for Success and FedEx will be hosting a Congressional Challenge.  Their asking House and Senate staffers to bring gently used women’s suits and other career appropriate attire to drop off points on the Hill.  The chamber which donates the most clothing to the charity wins.

The Senate drop off point will be the Reserve Officer’s Association at 1st and Constitution.  House staffers can bring their items to the corner of 1st and D Street SE, across from Bullfeather’s just south of the Capitol South Metro stop.

Dress for Success is a worthy cause, and I’ve selected a few of my work clothes to donate and I hope you’ll do the same.  And even though I probably shouldn’t pick favorites, Go House Side!
