Casual Monday. Pleated skirts are a nice option for spring and summer.  They’re breezier than a pencil skirt, which is good in the heat.  They’re also very feminine.  This printed H&M skirt also comes in black.  Plus-size?  Try this gorgeous Eloquii dotted skirt.

I like the look of a pleated skirt with a fitted sweater.  A short-sleeve sweater is a nice choice.  If you’re looking for a non-J.Crew product, try this cobalt Calvin Klein sweater. I also like this boatneck sweater from Ann Taylor.

These shoes are perforated, which gives them a bit of lightness.  It livens up the basic black pump a bit.  For a round-toe pump, try this Isani pump from Sole Society.

I love the look of a collar necklace with a crewneck sweater.  This fancy one from BaubleBar is really great.  For something a bit simpler, I like this faux-black pearl necklace from Kenneth Jay Lane.

For the hair, try a light wave to keep up with the flirty nature of the skirt.  For the makeup, I would wear bolder lip; I like this Butter London lip color in Ruby Murray.

Sunday Brunch.  I’m still loving the look of mixed patterns.  This skirt has an abstract dot pattern, so I added a wide stripe top.  The trick is to pick pieces that have the same unifying color palette.  You could also try a striped tee like this one from The Lady & the Sailor.

These shoes are a relaxed heel for the weekend.  If you prefer a flat, I think a pleated skirt needs a flat with structure.  I like these d’Orsay flats with a perforated detail from Wet Seal.

For the rest of the accessories, I chose a sleek clutch and some simple jewelry.  I adore these open hoops.

I would wear my hair up with this look.  I like this simple chignon.  For the makeup, a red lip and lots of mascara is always a good option.

    Hey Belle!
What kind of silhouette does the brunch outfit have? Is it boxy and cropped over the fuller skirt. I like the idea, but am having trouble visualizing it.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
